MVPS reverts to one director of student support services
Two-director model changed as longtime co-director Nancy Dugan eyes retirement.
Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools (MVPS) is hiring Hope MacLeod as the sole director of student support services a change made by the All-Island School Committee at their meeting Thursday.
Originally, MacLeod served as co-director, and was in charge of student support services for grades 8-12, while co-director Nancy Dugan was tasked with students in grades K-7.
But now Dugan is eyeing retirement at the beginning of July, and the school system has decided to revert back to a single-director model moving forward.

M.V. Bank Charitable Foundation awards grants
The Martha’s Vineyard Bank’s Charitable Foundation gave $30,450 through grants and donations to local nonprofits in the final quarter of the 2020 fiscal year. The foundation’s grants committee meets quarterly, and is dedicated to bettering the community through organizations in the areas of education, economic development, health and human services, culture, art, and historic heritage, and community services.
The 11 organizations that were allocated funding this quarter are Cape Cod Marathon 2021, Falmouth Community Television, Museums on the Green, Falmouth Academy’s Science & Engineering Fair, M.V. Figure Skating Club Sponsorship, Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, ACE MV Adult & Continuing Education, Belonging to Each Other, Falmouth VIPs, the Oak Bluffs School PTO’s Project Gratitude, and YMCA of Cape Cod.

Martha s Vineyard Public Schools students and staff returning to in-person classes this month are facing mandatory Coronavirus-testing.
The Vineyard Gazette reports funding was recently secured for the Island-wide testing program from the Martha s Vineyard Savings Bank charitable foundation and the Island nonprofit MV-Youth; the schools are also contributing to the cost.
The testing will be saliva-based and the initiative is considered to be surveillance testing .

Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools (MVPS) will soon be able to provide at-home COVID saliva testing for students and staff.
In what has been a long haul for school planners and health officials, the surveillance-pool testing plan from Mirimus Clinical Labs that was accepted by education officials in November has fully satisfied its funding requirements.
Through both public and private donations, the overall $462,150 price tag is significantly cheaper than the initial proposition to test all students and staff who enter school buildings.
