ADU students win EGA grant to build drones, robots
Abu Dhabi, UAE, January 11, 2021 Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has awarded an AED150,000 ($40,844.11) grant to three proposals put forth by Abu Dhabi University (ADU) Electrical, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering students. The grant will support the winning proposals to build drones and robots powered by artificial intelligence (AI), in preparation for EGA’s third edition of the AI Robot competition, according to the university. This follows ADU’s announcement of its students winning first and second place in the last EGA 2020 edition of the AI Robot competition, which challenged students from UAE universities and higher education institutes to design and build industrial robots to be used at EGA’s aluminium smelters.

Cited for not accommodating a medical condition
The University of Cincinnati refuses to say if John Ucker, an engineering professor, will return to the classroom this upcoming semester.
The public university placed Ucker on leave in September after he referred to COVID-19 as the Chinese virus in an email to a student.
The engineering professor “will remain on leave for the rest of the semester at least,”
The Enquirer, a Cincinnati paper in the
Ucker does not show up in the public university’s course catalog for the spring semester as of a search on December 28 though he remains on the university website.
UCCS receives $3,000,000 donation to expand engineering department
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs just received an over $3,000,000 donation from the Anschutz Foundation to expand the college s engineering department.
Dr. Don Rabern, Dean of the College of Engineering, said UCCS will be able to enroll close to 1,000 more students in the engineering department by 2026.
To accommodate those additional students, they re planning to add 25,000 square feet to their current engineering building.
Dr. Don Rabern, the dean of the College of Engineering, says the donation money will more-so go toward supporting the local aerospace industry. If they’re lucky, U.S. Space command may be a part of that industry in the near future.
