LOUISVILLE, Ky. After voicing their frustration over TARC3 s reliability, members of the community plan to protest the current state of the Transit Authority of River City s paratransit service for people with disabilities.
Travelers who depend on TARC3 are at times being left in limbo by a service specifically created to make their lives easier. We should not be stuck with a paratransit contract that is not delivering services, said Marcellus Mayes, who leads Louisville s Metro Disabilities Coalition.
Hundreds of bikers, runners, and walkers took part in the inaugural Tyler Gerth Memorial 5k at Waterfront Park. The 27-year-old photographer was killed when a man opened fire at Jefferson Square Park during the first weeks of the Breonna Taylor protests. Sunday marks a year since his death. He had become a fixture documenting every moment of the social justice movement. Just days after his death, Gerth s family knew they wanted to find a meaningful way for his memory to live on. We all came together as a family and realized that we needed to have purpose out of his death, that there had to be a meaning behind it, said Gerth s sister Tiffany Hensley.Gerth s two sisters launched Building Equal Bridges: The Tyler Gerth Foundation. It aims to continue Gerth s social justice work through scholarships, education, and community collaboration. LOUISVILLE, Ky. One year after 27-year-old photographer Tyler Gerth was shot and killed while documenting Louisville s fight for justice, his loved ones are launching a new foundation to support causes he cared about most.
Gerth marched alongside activists following the police shooting of Breonna Taylor, often seen capturing the voices of change with his camera. He was killed after a man opened fire into a crowd at Jefferson Square Park last June.
