Sewing Faith: Pandemic doesn t stop Kentucky church quilters | News, Sports, Jobs

DON WILKINS Messenger-Inquirer, via AP OWENSBORO, Ky. For the members of the Macedonia Baptist Church Quilting Ministry, they weren’t going to allow the COVID-19 pandemic to end what was started about 15 years ago. Judy Martin, who’s been with the group for about six years, said they have been able to produce quilts despite not being able to have their in-person meetings. “We each have our jobs for making these quilts,” Martin said. “Like I usually make the tops for them, another lady would quilt them and we had another lady who put the binding on it and sew on the label. So we would meet each other in parking lots during this COVID and do a hand-off. We’re basically all connected still.”

Poor reporting contributed to Shelby County s COVID-19 vaccine waste

Shelby County Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter sent the Tennessee Department of Health a hand-written log of wasted Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses on Monday.  In emails to each other, Tennessee State Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey and Dr. Michelle Fiscus, the head of Tennessee s immunization program, described the log as chicken scratch.   Further documents The Commercial Appeal obtained through an Open Records Act request show that while Haushalter who tendered her resignation Friday and other Shelby County officials were in frequent contact with the state over the past two weeks, they made no explicit mention of wasted vaccine doses until Haushalter called the state Feb. 19.
