The 22-minute episode features interviews with Sen. Mary Washington (D-Baltimore City), Del. Vanessa Atterbeary (D-Howard) and Sen. Justin Ready (R-Carroll). Washington discussed efforts by several southern states such as Georgia and Texas to restrict voting rights through the use of voter ID requirements and limits on mail-in voting and contrasted those efforts-which proponents say are designed to crack down on voter fraud-with actions the Maryland General Assembly has taken to expand voting rights.

Justin Ready, a Republican who represents Carroll’s District 5, posted on his Facebook page on Friday that board of education members Marsha Herbert and Ken Kiler wrote to the Maryland State Department of Education asking them to allow CCPS students and staff have the option to wear masks indoors. And he and his fellow Carroll legislators want to support them.

“The bill is an important statement that our state government is going to prioritize the health and financial needs of our student athletes,” said Del. Brooke Lierman, a Democrat who was a bill sponsor. More than a dozen states have approved laws to allow athletes to be compensated for use of their name, image or likeness, or NIL for short. “I think it’s something nationally that’s beginning to pick up steam on the specific issue of NIL,” said Sen. Justin Ready, a Maryland Republican who sponsored the legislation. “The NCAA has dragged its feet for so long on this issue. It makes no sense to me why a student athlete can’t earn money based on their name, image and likeness.”
