Speaker Gbajabiamila: House of Reps to amend National Health Act

TODAY February 26, 2021 The House of Representatives said it is working on plans to amend the National Health Act towards making healthcare service affordable to Nigerians. Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, said this at the opening of a three-day retreat on the act in Abuja on Friday. “We must ensure that our healthcare system at home is robust enough to accommodate and respond to current realities, because if we have learned anything from recent events, it is that in a global crisis, it is every country for itself,” he said. The speaker said the role of lawmakers was not limited to passing laws, as it extends to their implementation.

Abduction: Police confirm release of NTA female reporter

February 15, 2021 From Blessing Ibunge, Port Harcourt The Rivers State Police command has confirmed the release of a female journalist with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Port Harcourt. Mrs Chidiebere Onyia who regained her freedom early hours of Sunday, was abducted last Tuesday, on her way from office along Woji axis Port Harcourt. Following the abduction of the nursing mother, the pen professional, civil society groups and all well meaning Nigerians called for her harmless and unconditional release.  At about 8pm on Sunday, the Police command made an official statement on her release. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, she regained her freedom with no ransom and was abandoned on the road by the kidnappers.

Cleric warns comedians against jokes about God, religion

Daily Post Nigeria Published Sarah Omakwu, Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre (FWC) in Abuja, gave the caution on Sunday. Omakwu noted that part of loving God is to defend the gospel of Jesus Christ and all He represents. The Pastor said making jokes about Christianity is provoking and a mockery to God and to those who believe in God, in Jesus and in Christianity. “Comedians should stop throwing jokes about the word of God, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Communion, anointing oil, deliverance and powers. “Christian comedians, especially, ought to be telling the world about God and not making Christianity look like a joke to those whom they ought to be evangelising to.”
