Health Reporters Network, Speak Up Africa to hold First Health Awards : Sierra Leone Concord Times

January 19, 2021 By Mohamed Konneh Health Reporters Network Sierra Leone in collaboration with Speak Up Africa will hold its first Malaria and Health awards on January 22nd 2021 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Aberdeen in Freetown.  The award ceremony is part of effort to recognize journalists who have done so much in educating communities about malaria and to also recognize people who have done so well within the health sector. The award is also for Speak Up Africa to celebrate journalists who have demonstrated exemplary leadership that have brought about a positive impact through their work and initiatives. Speaking to this medium about the planned awards, Health Reporters Network President, Swaliho Vandi said the award is to recognize media practitioners who continue to raised awareness and drive action around important public health issues such as malaria, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), immunization, sanitation, and COVID-19.

CSO urges fact check of information in national interest

TODAY December 18, 2020 Civil Society Groups For Good Governance (CSGGG) on Thursday in Abuja stressed the need for consistent fact checking and accuracy of all information before publishing to protect Nigeria’s unity. The President of CSGGG, Mr Ogakwu Dominic, made the call at a Social Media Roundtable on Fake News, with the theme; “the Role of Civil Society in Curbing the Menace of Fake News and Malicious Reportage, for Good Governance and National Unity’’. Dominic described fake news as a dangerous lethal weapon that had bitten deep into the fabrics of the country, causing chaos and disrupting peace. He noted that fake news spreads at the speed of light due to technological advancement which had accelerated information dissemination.
