Unlike other recent Northeast Oregon renewable energy projects, which relied on nonunion out-of-state workers, the Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility about 15 miles south of Boardman employed members of Iron Workers Local 29, Laborers Local 737 and Operating Engineers Local 701. Oregon State Building Trades Executive Secretary Robert Camarillo says contractor Blattner Energy signed agreements with those unions after labor leaders met with PGE. PGE is part owner of the project, along with Next Era Energy Resources.
Peninsula Clean Energy is to procure 245MW from three California wind projects as part of its goal of providing reliable all-renewable, emission-free power by 2025.
The deals include a seven-year extension until 2030 of an existing 150-MW wind project in Solano County with Avangrid Renewables.
The current five-year term ends in December 2023.
An additional eight years has been agreed with Shell Energy North America (US) for half of the capacity and renewable energy generated by the existing 130MW wind project near Mojave.
The final source will be half of the expected 60MW generated for 20 years from this project being repowered by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources near Bakersfield in Kern County.

MASSENA The Massena Town Council will have a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 to amend the local law regulating solar power facilities. The hearing will be streamed live on the town’s Facebook page.
At the December town board meeting, Supervisor Steve O’Shaughnessy said Town Attorney Eric Gustafson recommended amending the law to include a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement, or tax exemption, for solar developers.
The board’s resolution says PILOT agreements for solar developers “are in the best interest of the residents of the town.”
Owners or developers of all solar energy facilities or systems have to contract with the town for a PILOT deal. The owner or developer has to give the town a written notice of intent to construct a solar power facility. The town is supposed to reply within 60 days if they intend to offer a PILOT, which can be for up to 15 years.
