After a year where the pandemic eliminated summer school, it is back next week in an extended session. We re excited to be offering K-12 summer school again, said Bonnie Conley, the school district s summer school coordinator.
Most summer school programs will be in a child s regular school, but students in eight schools will be attending other schools because of construction or enrollment issues. Parents have received information about which schools their children will be attending if enrolled in summer school. About 9,000 signed up, Conley said. It s good to have half the students in summer school.
The number represents about half of the student enrollment during the regular school year, she said.

COVE â No campfires will be burning on Cove Elementary Schoolâs campus this summer yet it may have a summer camp-like atmosphere.
The school will be the site of a new School Enrichment Program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, one in which students will discover that learning about math, science and art can be as enjoyable as roasting marshmallows.
âIt will be more like a summer camp than a school,â Cove School School District Superintendent Earl Pettit said.
Each day, students will participate in organized physical activities and engage in free reading or artistic activities of their choosing. Students will also complete a Science, Technology, Engineering, Artistic and Math program task aligned with the mission and goals of the school.
