Fire owner Joe Mansueto: No plans to make changes with Heitz, Wicky

Courtesy of the Fire The Fire’s record isn’t what anybody associated with the franchise hoped for. After the 2-2 tie Wednesday with D.C. United, the Fire are 3-8-3 and outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture. But owner Joe Mansueto is behind sporting director Georg Heitz and coach Raphael Wicky. “I don’t have plans to make any changes with Georg and Rapha,” Mansueto told the Chicago Sun-Times during a wide-ranging interview Monday. “I like working with both of them and have confidence in them. They are very knowledgeable about soccer, passionate, fully committed and engaged. I don’t see anything wrong that they are doing.”

D C United stages last-gasp comeback in 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire

D.C. United stages last-gasp comeback in 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire Share this story Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports D.C. United produced a stunning late comeback, striking twice after the 82nd minute to earn a 2-2 road draw against the Chicago Fire. After falling behind on a Gaston Giménez and an Andy Najar own goal, United came back from the dead late as Kevin Paredes and Ola Kamara (from the penalty spot) scored to give them a share of the points. Despite a series of knocks picked up against the Union on the weekend leaving much of the roster questionable, Hernán Losada ended up only having to make three changes to his lineup. Nonetheless, all three were injury-enforced, with Steven Birnbaum, Russell Canouse, and Adrien Perez not in uniform for United. Frédéric Brillant, Moses Nyeman, and Ola Kamara stepped in, while Losada switched from last week’s 343 to a 352.

Paredes, Kamara spark late rally, DC United ties Fire 2-2

CHICAGO (AP) Kevin Paredes and Ola Kamara scored about five minutes apart to help D.C. United rally for a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night. Paredes put away a pass from Yordy Reyna, bouncing a one-touch shot off the post to trim D.C. United’s deficit to 2-1 in the 82nd minute, and Kamara converted from the penalty spot in the 87th to cap the scoring.  Gastón Giménez opened the scoring for Chicago in the 32nd minute and the Fire took a 2-0 lead in the 61st on Andy Najar’s own goal.
