D.C. United stages last-gasp comeback in 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire

D.C. United produced a stunning late comeback, striking twice after the 82nd minute to earn a 2-2 road draw against the Chicago Fire. After falling behind on a Gaston Giménez and an Andy Najar own goal, United came back from the dead late as Kevin Paredes and Ola Kamara (from the penalty spot) scored to give them a share of the points.
Despite a series of knocks picked up against the Union on the weekend leaving much of the roster questionable, Hernán Losada ended up only having to make three changes to his lineup. Nonetheless, all three were injury-enforced, with Steven Birnbaum, Russell Canouse, and Adrien Perez not in uniform for United. Frédéric Brillant, Moses Nyeman, and Ola Kamara stepped in, while Losada switched from last week’s 343 to a 352.

D.C. United showed no mercy to struggling Toronto FC in a 7-1 drubbing before 14,000 at Audi Field. TFC, who entered the game on a five-game losing streak, were ripped to shreds, with United up 3-0 after 21 minutes before pouring it on late. United homegrowns Andy Najar and Griffin Yow both had two assists, while Yow joined a list of seven different goalscorers for the rampant Black-and-Red.
United, who kicked this game off with just two goals in their last 406 minutes played at home, were determined to break that streak as soon as possible, and took a 1-0 lead after just 71 seconds. An initial attack went astray, but the Black-and-Red counter-pressed, winning the ball back quickly. Paul Arriola fed Andy Najar down the right, and Najar’s cross helped on by a dummy from Adrien Perez rolled to the back post, where Paredes powered home his first MLS goal.
