City Approves Parking Change Requests For Carroll Rec Center

Changes have recently been approved for parking at the Carroll Recreation Center. When the center closed their east-side entrance, this pushed traffic to the west parking lot entrance. However, some patrons had requested the continued ability to utilize the east side doors for specific reasons. Select exceptions for persons with disability qualifications have been made, allowing them that access. In order to more easily accommodate this change, the Rec Center presented those individuals with a key fob and designated two parking stalls along Vine Street, south of sidewalk, to be labeled for use by persons with disabilities. The majority of members are now entering the building through the main entrance, which has also brought rise to other parking concerns. Kuemper Spring Musical Debuts Tonight With Medley Of Songs From Popular Productions

The Kuemper Catholic High School (KHS) spring musical debuts tonight (Thursday) and the cast is excited to be retaking the stage after the 2020 show was cancelled due to the pandemic. According to Student Director, Britnee Irlbeck, this year’s presentation will differ from past shows. Rather than focusing on a single plot, Irlbeck says they will be performing a selection of songs from the most well-known musicals. Practice has proven challenging for the cast and crew with social distancing and mitigation protocols still in place. They started rehearsing about a month later than usual because it was not clear if they would even be able to host a production this year. Senior, Dayna Toft, says a lot of time and effort has gone into making sure the spring musical is entertaining for all who attend.

Finishing a tough year on a bright note

After all, ASA has presented Christmas concerts ever since the program started 20 years ago. Well, Christmas music wishes will be coming true this year, too. Brainstorming by All Strings’ advisory group produced plans for a virtual recording featuring small ensembles performing on the Carroll Recreation Center theater stage. The show, titled “A Classic Christmas … With Fireside Chats,” will debut at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, on All Strings’ Facebook page. The concert was recorded Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, on the Carroll Recreation Center stage. The performance plan was drawn up to keep musicians safe — string players and vocalists all wore masks — while still being able to present a high-quality concert. “Concert-goers” will be able to watch from the cozy comfort of their homes.
