Three asylum seekers from Cameroon say an Immigration and Customs Enforcement guard threatened to expose them to COVID-19 if they failed to obey his orders and submit to deportation. They were told they would be transferred to Bravo-Alpha, the detention unit of the Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center in Louisiana where COVID-19 positive detainees were held in quarantine, detainee Clovis Fozao told The Intercept. “They were forcing us out of the dorm, pushing and dragging us,” Fozao said, explaining when the guards pushed the detainees toward deportation. “They threatened to call the SWAT team.” The Intercept

I didn’t grow up, nor have I ever lived, in the state of Vermont. That, and I’m not a musician, not professionally or in any sort of a talented way in my free time. And yet, I was recently asked by a member of the Vermont musical community to contribute to an uplifting video collage for 2021 and the message of hope for the uncertain future of live music and performers.
I was asked because of how much of the core of who I am, as a journalist and a music freak, was shaped by the music, onstage and off, spilling out of the city of Burlington, Vermont, and the surrounding areas. PLATTSBURGH â U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Schuylerville, and other members of Congress are urging President Joe Biden to immediately prioritize collaborating with Canada on safely reopening the northern border.

Brian Higgins, D-Niagara Falls/Buffalo, the members put forward actions they hope the administration will consider, including the creation of a bilateral plan for restoring travel and development of a policy that would allow property owners to cross.
âI have worked tirelessly with our counterparts in Canada on this issue, as it continues to impact North Country businesses, families and communities,â Stefanik said in a statement Friday.
