Idaho Falls Fiber marks 1,000th customer Share This Todd and Gina Stevenson connect to the Idaho Falls Fiber network. | Grace Hansen, EastIdahoNews.com Idaho Falls Fiber reached a milestone Tuesday morning when its 1000th customer connected to the network. Todd and Gina Stevenson, of Idaho Falls, plugged a small cord into a port that activated their home’s own designated fiber optic cable during a news conference. The substation containing the port, newly constructed on the eastern side of Idaho Falls, can service 2,000 customers, and it is one of 16 built around the city over the summer, according to officials. “Right now about 6,000 customers are eligible for service,” said Bear Prairie, general manager of Idaho Falls Fiber Network. “We encourage people to go and look at the opportunity out there.”

Melaleuca has announced it will be expanding its operations with a planned 508,000-square-foot distribution center in Kansas City, Mo. It is expected to open in early 2022. “Melaleuca is thrilled to expand into Kansas City for several reasons,” CEO Frank VanderSloot said in a press release. “It has a business-friendly environment; a well-educated, hard-working and talented workforce; advanced manufacturing industry expertise; and a strategic position in the center of the country.” The Idaho Falls-based wellness company will invest $35.5 million into this new location at a former Harley-Davidson building at 11401 N. Congress Ave. in Kansas City. The new facility will allow Melaleuca to improve customer service, increase delivery speeds and create more than 200 jobs. The addition of this new location means Melaleuca will be able to ship its American customers their products within two days, according to the company.

Erickson, Mel

Melvin Leroy Erickson, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 17, 2020, at his home. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice. Mel was born July 24, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry Leroy Erickson and Erma Sophia Anderson Erickson. He grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High School. He also attended the University of Utah. Mel served in the United States Navy during World War II. On February 6, 1948, he married Carolyn Janice Lewis in the Salt Lake Temple. Mel and Cal made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Mel worked in sales earning many awards for his salesmanship. He worked for Pacific Finance Inc, J.Ed Browning, Hart Pontiac Cadillac, KTEE radio station, and Harris Publishing, Inc. Mel was a civic and community leader and served on the Idaho Falls City Council for 32 years. In his honor, Mel Erickson Sunnyside Park is named after him for his many years of service to the city.
