Mayor outlines measures to address hate after swastikas found on Southwest County Park trees

MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: May 3, 2021 Mayor Mike Nelson  Following a report that swastikas were recently spray-painted on the trunks of several trees at Southwest County Park, Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson on Monday outlined what he called a proactive plan to address this and other “acts of hate” in the city. According to a mayor’s office announcement, an Edmonds resident alerted the City of Edmonds and Snohomish County officials of the swastikas at the park, which is owned and managed by Snohomish County but located between Olympic View Drive and 76th Avenue in Edmonds. A coordinated effort was launched to address the situation involving the city, Snohomish County Parks and the Snohomish County Executive’s office.

Mayor Nelson to host Zoom meeting for North Edmonds area April 29

Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson will host his third neighborhood Zoom meeting this time for North Edmonds on Thursday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. North Edmonds includes the neighborhoods of Seaview, Meadowdale and Perrinville. MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: March 17, 2021 Michelle Bennett Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson on Wednesday announced that he has appointed King County Sheriff’s Office veteran Michelle Bennett to serve as the city’s acting chief of police, effective Thursday, March 18. Bennettt will replace Acting Chief Jim Lawless, who is resigning to take a job as assistant police chief in Marysville. Bennett will serve as acting chief while the city conducts its recruitment for the next police chief a process that is estimated to take several months. Under city code, her appointment can run for six months or until the new chief is hired, whichever is sooner.
