Longford-Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty has hailed details of the Transitional LEADER Programme which will come into effect in April 2021 and it includes €690,000 allocation for the LEADER programme in Longford.
Today’s announcement also includes some flexibilities in relation to the finalisation of the current LEADER programme. In line with a commitment in the Programme for Government, the Transitional LEADER Programme will bridge a gap between the wind-up of the current 2014-2020 LEADER Programme and the start of the next EU programme, which is not likely to commence until 2023 due to delays at EU level,” said Mr Flaherty.
Minister McConalogue confirms that LEADER Food Initiative will continue in 2021, with higher aid rates
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, has confirmed that the LEADER Food Initiative, which provides funding support for new and existing artisan, micro and small food producers, will continue next year during the CAP transition period.
Minister McConalogue stated:
“I am pleased that this important programme will continue next year, and that there will be an increase in the maximum rate of aid from 50% to 75% in line with changes to LEADER generally. This decision ensures that continued funding will be available to assist small food producers to develop new food offerings, new routes to sell their produce, and to support the rural economy at this critical time.”

A Laois agency that funds community initiatives and local enterprises is to get nearly €650,000 to cause ba delay in funding the LEADER Programme which is not now expected to recommence until 2023 due what the Government says are delays at EU level.
The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today (Wednesday, December 16th) announced details of the Transitional LEADER Programme which will come into effect in April 2021.
A statement said that in line with a commitment in the Programme for Government, the Transitional LEADER Programme will bridge a gap between the wind-up of the current 2014-2020 LEADER Programme and the start of the next EU programme, which is not likely to commence until 2023 due to delays at EU level.

To deflect future world food crises created by climate change and growing consumer demand, a Cornell-led international team of economists, scientists and business experts has created a road map for global agricultural and food systems innovation, reform and sustainability.
“By any measure, our world’s food systems are phenomenally productive, responsive and adaptable, as we can now feed almost 5 billion in a healthy way,” said Chris Barrett, the Stephen B. and Janice G. Ashley Professor in Cornell’s Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, who leads the project.
