Back in 2019, a small student-run business known as the Paw Shop opened in a portion of a business classroom at Great Bend High School. Last week, GBHS business teacher Amber Lucchesi and a few of her students showed the USD 428 Board of Education how the project continues.

Editor s note: The Patriot Ardmore Student Leader program recognizes high school seniors, nominated by their high school administrative staff, that demonstrate integrity and leadership in school and extracurricular organizations while upholding high standards at the academic level. Each month two student leaders are named, and at the end of the school year the monthly student leaders will vie for the Student Leader of the Year title and a new car provided by Patriot Ardmore.
High school is a time for teenagers to explore the various paths they can take as they enter adulthood. Some seniors graduate with a laser focus on their future while others are still weighing their options, and the December candidates for the Patriot Ardmore Student Leader of the Year award are no different. What sets them apart from their peers, however, is the leadership and volunteerism they’ve picked up along the way.
AUBURN â As residents ring in 2021, Auburn Tri Kappa is reminding DeKalb County residents to schedule their mammograms for the year and continue breast self-awareness.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. With busy schedules, women often neglect having their yearly breast cancer screening as recommended by the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer diagnosed in the early stages has a 98% cure rate. However, breast cancer remains the second-highest cause of cancer death among women.
The mission of Auburn Tri Kappa Pink Out is a call to action and education of community members about the crucial importance of early detection. Auburn Tri Kappa has established a financial aid fund available to DeKalb County residents in need of assistance with the cost of screenings, diagnostic testing, or treatment of breast cancer. Applications are available at many health care providers including St. Martin’s Clinic, Francine
Isom added the Pink Ribbon Network also provides a $1,000 scholarship to one student from each high school in Christian, Todd, and Trigg counties every year. To qualify, the student has to have lost a close family member. The organization will also be helping out some families with Christmas this year.

Smithfield introduced to new Pleasant View Elementary

SMITHFIELD – Students from McCabe and Winsor Elementary schools cheered as construction workers lowered a wooden truss topped with a pine tree onto the McCabe School’s addition, in a symbolic gesture on the joining of the school with Winsor Elementary to create the new Pleasant View Elementary School.
Administrators, town and school officials, and students from McCabe and Winsor watched as crews lowered the highest truss onto the addition at McCabe Elementary School, 100 Pleasant View Ave., on Monday, to commemorate the successful build.
