North Carolina: Shooting while hallucinating causes arrest

Updated: 3:55 PM EST Dec 22, 2020 The Associated Press A North Carolina man who deputies said fired a shotgun in his home while hallucinating on drugs about an imaginary burglary was charged with child abuse.That’s because John-Michael Scott Coppola’s newborn child was at the Mooresville home when Coppola began firing into the walls of the residence earlier this month, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement posted Monday on its Facebook page.Click the video player above for more information about the incident.When deputies arrived at the home to do a welfare check on the infant, they said Coppola and the child’s mother, Kaylee Brianna Wilhelm, “both appeared to be impaired by some substance.”Those substances were later found out to be meth and marijuana, the statement said. Wilhelm, 22, was also arrested for child abuse.

On Dec. 8, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office went to a home on Pond View Road for a welfare check on an infant.
