The slate of candidates for San Antonio mayor and the city’s 10 council seats on the May 1 ballot is set.
After Friday’s deadline for filing, city records showed 81 people are running for a spot on the City Council in a race defined by the human and economic toll inflicted on the city by COVID-19 as well as a reckoning over the power of the San Antonio Police union in the wake of a public demand for law enforcement reform.

State health officials said Monday vulnerable populations can now be given the coronavirus vaccine.
The vaccine is available through dozens of medical facilities, pharmacies and hospitals across San Antonio for those 65 and older or people with certain underlying medical conditions. Providers are listed on this map.
Although those in Phase 1B are allowed to have the vaccine, not all places are prepared to administer the doses to those in the second group. MySA.com called five locations around San Antonio to see where they stand.

On Dec. 19, City Manager Erik Walsh received a call from Dr. Erika Gonzalez, an allergy and immunology specialist whose clinic was days away from receiving 500 doses of Moderna’s scarce COVID-19 vaccine.
Gonzalez, the politically connected chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, wanted to know if Walsh would like a dose.
The city manager said no.
“I said, ‘If you have additional (doses) at some point, then coordinate with Metro Health and we can make sure that first responders and those front-line employees are taken care of,’” recalled Walsh, 51.

SAN ANTONIO Some of the first doses of Moderna s COVID-19 vaccine arrived this morning at South Texas Allergy and Asthma Medical Professionals, also known as STAAMP Allergy.
According to STAAMP Allergy, 500 health care professionals will begin getting the vaccine as it works with more than 20 local clinics to vaccinate their healthcare worker staff and teams. STAAMP will also begin administering the shots to local San Antonio school nurses.
