STAMFORD, Conn., May 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Synchrony today announced Education as an Equalizer, an initiative to expand access to higher education, skills training in high-growth fields and financial literacy for underserved communities and its own workforce. During the next five years, the company will invest more than $50 million in the program.

Governor Ned Lamont yesterday announced that he is proposing to invest $103 million in funding that Connecticut is receiving from the American Rescue Plan Act to ensure that workers whose employment has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic have access to industry-aligned training programs that address the immediate hiring demands of employers and provide job seekers with employment opportunities.
There are currently 140,000 unemployed individuals in Connecticut. However, companies are hiring at a record pace, with March 2021 showing the highest monthly job posting numbers in the last ten years.
Gov. Ned Lamont has proposed spending $103 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds on job training and other workforce development efforts.
In a statement Lamont said the spending would help connect Connecticut s approximately 140,000 unemployed residents with employers in the state who the governor said are hiring at a record pace. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape the future of Connecticut’s workforce and ensure it aligns with the needs of the post-pandemic, 21st century economy,” Lamont said.
The initiative would be led by the state Office of Workforce Strategy, an agency the Lamont administration established under the auspices of the Department of Economic and Community Development last year.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday the state is beginning to see a slowdown in demand for vaccinations, prompting his administration to look for new ways to encourage people to get the shot and move closer toward herd immunity in the state.
