Is leading the investigation into what caused a lone College Educated gunman to open fire at two military facilities in chattanooga, tennessee. Investigators say it was Mohammod Youssef Abdulazees who killed four marines before he was killed himself. Kenneth craig has the latest from chattanooga. Its been a tragic and long and sad day. Reporter people in chattanooga came together in prayer late thursday night after a shooting rampage left four marines dead and three other people wounded earlier in the day. Federal and local investigators are now looking into the backgrounds of the gunman for answers. We are checking every possible place that he could reside or could have resided, visited, where he went to school. Reporter using an automatic rifle, Authorities Say 24year old Mohammod Youssef Abdulazees opened fire on the marines at this military facility thursday before he was shot and killed by police. While the you can wait born gunman coup wait born gun ookuwait born gunman was not on the terrorist list [ inaudible ] at this point authorities arent sure what motivated abdulazees to first open fire here at the strip mall before driving seven miles away and kills those marines but they are looking into whether he was motivated or influenced by isis. We do know isis for the last several weekses have been putting out social media across the world telling people that they will enjoy ten times the reward in the afterlife if they commit an act of jihaddism, martyr for isis. Reporter authorities plan to analyze the gunmans computer and phone records for clues. Kenneth craig, cbs news, chattanooga, tennessee. We still dont know the names of the four marines. Theyre not being released till all of their families have been notified. The three other people who were wounded in the attack remain hospitalized. Reporter now the concern is growing about the safety of other military recruiting centers around the country because they are looking for new recruits, these centers intentionally make it easy to walk in and talk about possibly joining the military. That also, however, makes them soft targets when it comes to shootings like this. New york city is one place that is ramping up security at their recruiting centers as a precaution. Like d. C. , new york is always on high alert. Former f. B. I. Assistant director bill gavin is among those concerned about recruiter safety. There are these military people standing, recruiting, getting like kind to defend our country and theyre not defended themselves. At this point the pentagon is not asking recruiting Centers Nationwide to increase security just yet. They released a statement saying they are working with local authorities to assess the situation to see if any changes are necessary. Two d. C. Men are in custody this morning accused of opening fire inside a takoma park motel. The two were charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire at the econo lodge on New Hampshire avenue. The victim is a hyattsville man in his 20s. He is expected to recover. A vicious attack in northwest d. C. Caught on camera and it was all over a bicycle. We have the video of that attack. Before i show it to you, i want to warn you it is graphic and it is hard to see. It happened on july 11 and d. C. Police say it was in the shaw neighborhood at r and 11 streets. As you can see in this video a person is lying on the ground while a group of people beat him and stomp him and jump on him repeatedly. It was all over the victims bmx bike. It happened right after an event called a bike jam. The attackers got away with two bikes, a cell phone and a backpack. This is what one of the victims had to say. Anybody could have got like killed or anybody could have been seriously injured because there was a lot of people. They could have done anything they wanted to really. Reporter thankfully those vehicle films were able to walk away victims were able to walk away with minor injuries, a few bruises and broken noses. They are expected to be okay but police still want to talk to those involved. If you recognize anyone in that video, youre asked to call police immediately. When the thief walked up he said he lost his money so the girls gave him a free cup. Then this happened. He just ran back and he kind of pushed the table towards us and took the money and just kept running. We got up and started screaming come back. And then this lady came by and she called the police. Reporter one of the girls brothers and his buddies swooped into action. We saw the dude with my sisters box and ran after him. Sheriffs deputies raced to the scene and arrested 18year old santini tate. The girls got their cash box back and 20 they earned in profits. The scene extends about half a block to Central Avenue, about a hundred yards down the street here. And im counting at least 24, 25 evidence markers on the ground. Investigators say it appears the woman who was hit was not in a crosswalk. The suspects car is described as a dark toyota, possibly a camry with front end damage. If you have any information about the case, please contact Prince Georges County police. An accident that killed a 45yearold woman is still under investigation in wheaton. Police say Delores Posadas was hit near selfridge road. The car hit a utility pole and then struck posadas. The driver stayed at the scene. Shes 83yearold mary alice tabbs of north bethesda. Live outside d. C. Police headquarters. Police need your help finding the suspects involved in a brutal attack that was all caught on camera. He tells his side of the story a man has been arrested for videotaping the aftermath of a deadly crash instead of trying to save a life. He actually opened the door to get a better shot of the victim and it was that move that got him arrested. Paul pelton, now known as americas worst samaritan has an explanation. Reporter 41yearold paul pelton is facing charges for a crime you dont hear of very often, vehicle trespass. But what police say he did on the scene of this deadly accident had eyewitnesses who were there flabbergasted. Its disgusting. The guys mom probably had to see that. Reporter he shot graphic video on his cell phone of 17 yearold cameron friends as he was dying inside the car. Police say he also shot video of the driver, 17yearold daiquiri goodin who was critically injured also inside the car. Police say pelton even opened a back door of the car to lean in and continue shooting video. At no time tried to help. Later he posted the video on facebook. Police say he tried to sell the video to at least to news organizations. We were told pelton wasnt home when we went looking for his side of the story. Pelton posted this video on facebook saying, this is all a big misunderstanding. I want to offer a public apology to the families of those kids that got injured and deceased in the car accident. I never intended it to be a video that would have came across as like a gore video or whatever. I put the individual out there so other kids can see it and kind of learn from that mistake of speeding and driving recklessly. Reporter police also said pelton called the injured teens idiots as he shot his video. Theyre talking about me calling them idiots. Thats stupid, like why did they do that. It upset me because i have kids, too. He claims he didnt try to sell the video he posted on facebook. He was asking for donations for a charity he belongs to. No word if police bought that explanation. I dont think a lot of people are buying that explanation. Kind of scenes like a scene out of night crawler. It looks a little bit hazy as were looking toward the cathedral in the background and the georgetown waterfront in the foreground. Hazy sunshine for a good amount of the day. The temperature and the humidity will still be on the comfortable side as we head into the afternoon. But its not going to be quite as please santsz as it was yesterday pleasant as it was yesterday. I wanted to focus on the feels like forecast because it is going to feel dangerously hot and humid as we head into the weekend. Today is still tolerable. 89 is the peak of what its going to feel like this afternoon in d. C. Same in leesburg. 87 in martinsburg. 89 in culpeper. Heading into the overnight hours, were not going to cool down as much as we did last night. As youre stepping out the door saturday morning, its going to feel like its in the mid70s to around 80 degrees. Thats first thing in the morning. Then in the afternoon, this is just tomorrow. That heat index will approach 100 degrees. On sunday it gets even worse as the High Temperature reaches into the upper 90s. So today is the nicest day were going to have in a while, a high of 88 degrees, seasonably warm with a partly sunny sky. On saturday 92, scattered showers and thunderstorms from midafternoon onward and then sunday is a yellow alert day not because of the storms but because of the dangerous heat, a high of 98 degrees. An isolated storm possible but the big story here is that heat and the heat index is going to be over100 on sunday be over 100 on sunday. We stay in the mid90s even on monday. Tuesday 92 degrees.
