Karen. I know pulling out of my drive way on a residential street i just kind of slid. Just having a skating job there. Allow extra time because some of you may really be going at the windshield with that scraper this morning. Use caution for the morning commute. We have lingering slick spots. Big problems are driveways, park, lots and sidewalks. Some side streets could also be an issue and let the kids know that as they are walking in theyre liable to encounter icy sidewalks win icy windshields sometimes you get people who havent totally cleared it out driving and it might be a little bit harder for them to see those kids as theyre walking across the street. Were at 27 degrees right now. The winds are west at five so were not having to worry about a whole lot of wind chill but as you can see, temperatures from about i95 all the way up toward allentown are still below freezing. You may have less of an issue with that ice on the windshield in places south like millville and dover where the temperature is above freezing but especially as you get closer to i95 it is an issue this morning. And it probably stays that way for a time. By 8 oclock were still at the freezing mark in philadelphia but then as we start to improve. We expect sun, perhaps mixing with a few clouds and well get up to 42 degrees. All that ice will be gone a little bit later on this morning. Karen, we still got that milder trend coming in the accuweather 7day. All right, dave, lets hit the roads right now. Although we have problems on the secondary streets, not the main roads as were looking live outside on the schuylkill expressway at south street, youre going to watch for some slick spots but the highways themselves are in pretty good shape. The overnight construction was canceled because of the icy conditions that weve seen throughout the area. 422 westbound the off ramp is shut down at this point. Stick to Armand Hammer boulevard off ramp. Construction crews are causing that problem. More crews out here on hollowville road shut down near conestoga road in tredyffrin township. Thats a gas line repair. Live in new jersey this is what it looks like on 42. Youll have to take your time coming in today. Getting to the highways could be a real problem especially the ramps and overpasses. Main roads though in pretty good shape and were seeing 42 for a second there it looks pretty good. We have a water main repair going on. Hartford road shut down in mount laurel. Stick to ark road instead matt. Thanks karen. Lets turn to action News ReporterJeanette Reyes live in philadelphias manayunk section more with the potential icy conditions. Reporter matt from what i can see it is going to be icy here at least in manayunk. Philadelphia schools still not showing any delays this morning so if you have kids to attend philadelphia schools you might as well give yourself some extra time this morning. Im going to step out of the way slowly so i dont fall again. You can see kind of that shine over the sidewalk. Thats a sheet of ice really on any sidewalk you walk on unless of course salt has been thrown on it. This morning many will spend the first few minutes of their important scraping off ice off their cars. Sidewalks are slick as were the streets then still have this morning with the precipitation falling just as the evening commute began. The timing could have made for the worst case scenario. Fortunately though the roads werent nearly as busy as usual thanks in part to early dismissals at city schools and businesses across the region. The Streets Department on the other hand was out in full force deploying dozens of trucks with 35,000 tons of salt at their disposal, crews treated the roads well into the night. Its so icy out here. Ive seen so many people wipe out. I hope i can get to my class on time. Somebody will have to catch their footing a bit as their foot slides. Reporter and you know, one thing is the sidewalks, the other are the streets. If theyve not been treated you have the potential for black ice. You want to give yourself enough time to scrape the ice off your windshields and also to make it to work or school because its recommended that you take it slowly. The symbolic break through came during the first high level talks between the two nations in two years. Abcs lana zak has the latest. Good morning. The winter Olympic Games hosted by south korea are expected to begin and in exactly one month and now it looks increasingly likely that for the first time in 12 years, the north and south may march together possibly even under one flag. North korea has agreed to send their athletes officials and cheerleaders to the Olympic Games. [speaking foreign language] reporter north koreas top delegate called the cooperation a new years gift to the Korean People a sentiment echoed by south koreas reunification minister. After a year of increasingly worrisome missile tests by the hermit kingdom and escalating rhetoric between kim jong un and President Trump the positive steps are being heralded as a symbolic step. Even President Trump has expressed cautious optimism. If something can happen and something can come out of those talks, that would be a great thing for all of humanity. Reporter among the issues expected to be discussed are the logistics of the norths participation in the olympics as well as the possibility of family reunification visits. And although economic and military issues may not be actively discussed today, they are of course on the forefront of everyones minds. Reporting from washington, lana zak for channel6 action news. New video shows firefighters working together to save a cow trapped in a frozen pond. David. Temperatures this morning are below freezing and thats bad news because in areas where you got the freezing rain yesterday its still icy. That includes philadelphia and points north essentially. Well have details coming up in that accuweather 7day forecast. Much milder this afternoon. The same californians who had to flee from huge wildfires are being warned about potential mudslides. Storms brought heavy rain and flash flood watches to the area yesterday. Hill sides are now left bear by the states largest wildfire in history. And new video shows just how frozen the beaches in new england are. You can see an ice skater taking advantage of the ice covered long sand beach in maine. The person who spotted the skater and captured the video shows that this is proof that every day is a beach day in maine. Suit yourself. Get some hockey sticks out there. Were going to start thawing things out around here. Probably after 9, 10 oclock i think most of the ice is gone. Right now you can do some skating on sidewalks around here. Okay. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows were dry. The precipitation from last night of course is gone but as we take a look outside temperatures are still very cold and at the surface where it hasnt been treated youre going to find some ice, probably ice on windshields as well and right now at the airport everybody being cautious along with everywhere else. Currently your temperature is at 27 degrees so we still are below freezing, still supporting that ice that has managed to survive overnight. Winds out of the west at 5 miles per hour. Wind chill of 22. Although the temp and wind chill really not as bad as what weve seen recently. Current temperatures are below freezing in wilmington philadelphia trenton, allentown, reading lancaster and all of these suburbs including areas in new jersey and delaware close to the delaware river. You still have temperatures below freezing. The farther down you go toward millville, youre above freezing there, so maybe not as much of a problem the farther south you go through south jersey. But for this morning, icy sidewalks are definitely part of the morning issues that were seeing. Icy windshields, too. And i was out there really working on it. You got to get in defroster going. It will take you a couple minutes to get through to the glass and extra time to scrape this morning before you head on out. And also be careful on side streets and remember pedestrians crossing those side streets may be having a difficult time getting across them in normal fashion so give them plenty of room. As we take a look at satellite we have seen a breakup in clouds behind that precipitation and we are expecting some sunshine early and probably no worse than partly sunny skies today. 32 degrees by 8 oclock. By 8 00 we could still be having problems with that freeze up. By 10 oclock were up to 35. Northern suburbs may be lagging behind a little bit but in through here and we should start to see the ice break up. By noon 39 and 3 oclock a little milder this afternoon with a high of 42 degrees, winds not all that bad, really a pretty nice afternoon and high temperatures just about everywhere are fairly comfortable. Allentown will stay at 39 degrees but 40 in reading and trenton, 42 in philadelphia, 41 in wilmington, 42 today in millville. When i say comfortable, i guess its relative. Youre still going to want a coat but obviously its going to be better than its been a lot of recent past. Speaking of which the past couple weeks weve had the jet stream digging down to the south, it socked us in with periods of cold air but we are looking at a pattern building in toward the end of the week where the jet stream rises up, we get milder air and later on in the month we might get another surge of even better milder pockets of air. For now though were looking at a bit of that coming at the end of the week. 42 is todays high partly sunny and milder. Look out for icy conditions early. Mostly sunny and chilly tomorrow, 39 degrees. And then 48 on thursday and were probably clouding up during the day but i think any rain likely holds off until night. During the day on thursday it will be milder kind of cloudy and then we get rain at night. Even milder on friday with a high of 58 but keep your umbrella handy as well have periods of rain. Then on saturday youre looking windy and chilly with a high of 48 for the eagles game. Maybe a spotty shower. This is well above average. Better than it could have been in mid january for our big playoff Football Game at lincoln financial field. Then on sunday its cold again. 31 degrees is the high and probably down to about 28 degrees on Martin Luther king day. That means youll have to be bun denlying bundling up if you do volunteer activities. So, mild stuff coming and really it begins later today but you do have to be careful this morning with the ice. Will do. Thanks, david. New here on action news firefighters in North Carolina rescued a cow that was trapped in 10inches of ice in frigid water.
