Penndot has 100,000 tons of salt waiting and 182 state trucks at the ready. This storm timing on this storm is good in terms of it being a weekend and less volume on the roads. That will allow our crews to more effectively and efficiently treat the roadways. Penndot asked drivers who do go out tomorrow please be on the alert for their trucks on the roads and keep a safe distance from that vehicle to allow plenty of time to stop on potentially slippery roads. This man tried to escape with his children out the front door of his apartment but after seeing the thick black smoke, had to go back inside. A fast moving house fire in delanco new jersey left four people hurt including a firefighter. The blaze broke out around 1 30 this morning. Crews responded. Rescued two women who were trapped on the roof. They also saved a man inside. Action News ReporterJeanette Reyes has the story from the scene tonight. Think this doesnt happen to you but it can. Reporter less than 24 hours ago the family called this house their home for what would turn out to be the last time. This morning, it is being boarded up, a total loss after a fast moving fire consumed the house along the 600 block of union avenue around 1 oclock this morning. I got slamming knock on my girlfriends door by the neighbor. Reporter Marcus Miraglia lives in the home but happened to be staying at his governors place when the fire erupted. His step dad mom and sister were and sound asleep but woke up just in the nick of time. His step dad ran outside. The two women headed to the roof of the home. Firefighters arrived and rescued them quickly despite the raging flames and slippery conditions. Big factor of course is ice and, you know, water, cold, dont mix well, turns into ice and now we have slippage and Everything Else so thats one of the one extremes that we do have. Theyll come out and have salt and theyll salt the area for us. Reporter all three occupants were briefly hospitalized for minor injuries as well as a firefighter. The family dogs were rescued from the home but all three died hours later. She was so diligent with, you know, saving all of the memories and the photos and just everything. Thats probably going to be the worst, material things come and go but to me just my familys okay, thats all that matters. Reporter officials wont say where they believe the fire may have started but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Philadelphia police are still looking for the person who shot and killed a man in the citys Spring Garden section just before 9 oclock last night. Police got a call with a person with a gun. They went to the 1200 block of brandywine street and found a 39yearold man in an apartment with a bullet wound to the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No word on the motive. Police in maple shade, new jersey, still have not released the name of a woman killed in the southbound lanes of route 73 near waverly road. She was struck by a car about 11 30 last night. The driver of the striking vehicle stayed there. The southbound lanes of route 73 were closed for more than six hours. And Philadelphia Police have now released Surveillance Video of two men wanted for an Armed Robbery in north philadelphia. These are the suspects right before police say they went up to a couple walking in the 2100 block of west stella street. They demand everything they had. They also punched the man in the face. If you recognize these men, youre asked to call Philadelphia Police. Well, we are just two days away from ringing in the new year and for those of you making the trek to times square to celebrate with, oh, a million other people you can expect very tight security. For the First Time Police were screening people going into restaurants and hotels in times square. There will be pilots flying over the area keeping an eye out for danger. Snipers will be stationed on building rooftops. There will also be 10,000 cameras watching everyones move. There is a cold snap sweeping the northeast through the midwest affecting 200 million americans. And while were going to see snow tomorrow folks living in erie pa are still trying to dig out from 5 feet of snow that fell since christmas. They know all about it. And in upstate new york crews have been using front end loaders to move mountains of snow. As we take a look at satellite and radar, theres the system, its very weak but nonetheless its going to bring us a little messy bit of snow here tomorrow morning into the early afternoon. Its a quick hit of it but again, even a little bit of snow on a very cold ground will create quite a nuisance here for your saturday. Future tracker showing 6 oclock in the morning thats when the flurries start falling in the western suburbs and then it becomes steady calm and light right around the mid to late morning, lunchtime hour at 12 oclock, snowing across much of the region. But its not long after lunch that that snow starts to fall apart and move off to the east and its o a lng scattered flurry or snow shower later on in the afternoon. This snapshot of 4 30 looking like a coating to 2inches of snow acrosstheboard here, most areas will pick up a fluffy inch. But every flake is going to stick with that steadiest before midday creating slick driving conditions on untreated surfaces but this is one of those snows thats going to be easy to remove off the car. If you have a broom, the sidewalk or bring out the leaf blower and just below your drive way with some of that snow, thats how easy youll be able to remove it.
