Vine street expressway underneath where there are no traffic lights is also of course jam packed across town. Getting onto 95 northbound, 54 minutes going on an hour on the northbound side. Thats about four times what it should be. At least you can see the lanes here. The lanes are mostly wet but theyre slippery enough that people are really needing to slow down and as we look at the big picture, you get a sense of all the red and all the single digit speeds around the region. It really is nasty. We had an overturned vehicle on the southbound northeast extension near quakertown. Looks like thats now off to the side so just starting to improve there with speeds in the 30s and in south jersey our travel times, a little better than it was earlier but still a really slow pace on the southbound side of 42. Delaware also has its fair share of single digit speeds. Yeah, its bad. Stopped in a lot of spots this evening. Jim. Matt pelman, thank you. Now the latest on the accuweather alert from meteorologist cecily tynan. And jim, the good news is double scan live shows the accumulating snow is done for philadelphia, for pennsylvania, for really all of delaware. We still have some snow falling in south jersey. As we zoom in, you can see near chatsworth right now, near browns mills, this is where we really do have the steadiest snow. This is all sliding to the north and east. So, it will be shutting down within the next hour, but if you are driving route 70, the garden state parkway, snow is falling and its still accumulating. But this is really proof that it doesnt take much snow to cause major problems. Its all about timing. Happening during the afternoon into the evening commute and the latest snowfall totals all showing around 2inches of snow. 6abc studios 2. 1, wilmington 2inches, valley forge 2. 3, the same in coatesville and ridley park reporting two and a half inches of snow. Visibility shows that its Getting Better in philadelphia. Its up to 2 miles. It was less than a mile last hour. We still have the visibility at the Atlantic City airport less than a mile,. 8 right now. Millville 1 mile. This is where the snow continues falling. Temperaturewise we were stuck below freezing all day long. Temperatures in the 20s. Thats why the snow stuck immediately. And temperatures tonight in some areas will be dropping down into the teens. So, this is what to expect. Again, the snow is over along i95 areas west. It will be clearing the coast within the next hour. By 7 oclock the snow is over. Overnight low 19 to 24, so roads will be slick tonight. Do be careful. But im tracking a big warmup on the way. Ill have details on that in the accuweather 7day forecast. Jim. All right, cecily, lets go live now to action News Reporter dann cuellar who is on the ben franklin parkway. Dann whats the situation in the city . Reporter jim, an utter mess. The timing for these traffic lights to go out on the north side of city hall could not have been worse. Right in the middle of a snowstorm and just in time for rush hour. Needless to say, it has been everything but a rush in center city trying to get home. Yes, folks, welcome to the nightmare on the parkway here city hall. Wow. Its crazy. Its so messy. Just a mess down here today you know what i mean its a mess, you know. Reporter it was just after 3 00 that the Traffic Signals on the north side of city hall just decided to go on the blink. Peco crews have been at it trying to fix the problem but in the meantime police have been having to direct traffic the Old Fashioned way and it was slow going on the parkway and just about everywhere near city hall. Ive gotten from the art museum to here it took about 25 minutes. Reporter wow. Normally it would take just a few minutes. Usually about two minutes. Reporter its a mess tonight. Its a mess. Going to catch the bus the 27. It never came. Reporter everything is topsyturvy tonight. Yes but they have a nice happy hour right there. Reporter thats a good way of looking at things. It is a friday after all but until they can get these traffic lights fixed, it is going to be slow going here in center city. As you can see really backed up here on 16th street. Now we have an ambulance in the mix as well. So thats a situation here in center city. Im dann cuellar channel6 action news. Jim. All right, dann lets switch live to action News Reporter john rawlins for a look at the suburban snow story. Son john is in west chester. Hopefully the situation in west chester is better than center city philadelphia. Reporter certainly better than center city. During the first couple of hours of the storm, say 1 00 to 3 00 things were moving but it was slow. Once the darkness fell, though, things really bogged down out here in the western suburbs. Snowplows are out but given the rush hour traffic, they cant cover ground very quickly. Plow drivers also hemmed in by congestion. At about 4 15 our goal was to take 202 north from westtown township about 15 miles to king of prussia but after a half hour of stop and go creeping we had only gone about four and a half miles. Clearly Road Conditions deteriorated from just a few hours before when we traveled from king of prussia in about 45 minutes. Here in west chester borough, drivers told us similar tales of slow, slow going. Took me almost almost two hours to get to west chester from media. Reporter and thats what would it normally take you. I would say thats triple the time. I mean its been really slippery and sliding. Im just i came from over there. The conditions just been awful. I just came through gay street and its, the, its almost at a standstill. Reporter you have to have that patience. Very, very much patience and just cant be in a rush to get anywhere. Reporter well, this is east Market Street behind me. It was bumper to bumper at one point but clearly it is much quieter now. Hopefully signaling that the worst is over out here in the western suburbs. In west chester john rawlins channel6 action news. Results of that long awaited grand jury report detailing hazing and excessive alcohol use within the greek life at Penn State University will reveal today. The report alleges that penn state officials were aware of dangerous alcohol abuse by fraternities as far back as 2007. The grand jury began investigating safety issues on campus following the death of Beta Theta Pi pledge Timothy Piazza back in february. Piazzas parents issued a Statement Today saying they are shaken and appalled by the findings of penn states long time knowledge of dangerous hazing and the universitys preference to ignore and or condone such behavior. Penn state says it is committed to promoting safety and accountability in fraternities but it objects to the reports characterization that the school has done little to combat drinking and hazing. The report does contain several recommendations for change at the university including tougher hazing laws. You can read the entire document on our web site at 6abc. Com. Is the coach worried they might be trying too hard to replace such a big piece of the puzzle. Its a fine line. At the end of the day i dont want guys to go above and beyond to help us win games. They dont have to do anything more than just their job and just their responsibility and whatever their role is in the game plan and that goes for nick. Its been awhile since hes been playing. You dont want him to press. You want the game to kind of unfold in front of you. The sixers have lost to the thunder 16 times in at a row.
