A woman was shot in the head after threatening to stab and kill a man, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller.Mueller said officers were dispatched to a home located on River Drive in Gaffney, around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found a female with a gunshot wound to the head. Mueller said the woman was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional.According to Mueller, officers interviewed several people in the home and they identified the man that shot the woman as Thomas Ray Hollis, 63, of Gaffney.Mueller said according to witnesses, the woman and Hollis entered the home arguing Sunday night. The sheriff said it is alleged that the woman escalated the argument when she got a butcher knife from the kitchen and started threatening to stab and kill Hollis. According to witnesses, the woman stood in front of Hollis while he was seated, and raised the knife above her head while she threatened him. Hollis then pulled a small-caliber handgun from his pocket and fired one shot hitting the woman in the head.Mueller said Hollis was taken into custody on an unrelated general sessions bench warrant for "Failure to Appear for a Pending Drug Charge". Mueller said the woman remains in the hospital. He said her injury is non-life threatening and she is expected to fully recover.Mueller said the woman will be interviewed once she is released from the hospital.Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
