Temperatures in Southern California pose another challenge for firefighters. With the heat around you, depending on the flame length and whats burning, maybe 130plus. Reporter the situation all too familiar for some trying to protect thefl selves from fire dang remember for the last several years. This is a third time that we got threatened by a fire. Reporter many back in washington have seen the fears realized. The question now is, how much worse will it get. Reporter later today, more help is on the way. Were expecting an additional 250 firefighters to arrive. Were told this area is so squares with resource that is help has been requested from as far away as australia. Erica. My goodness. Gadi schwartz, thanks. Dylan is here with a look at the sheer number of fires and what the firefighters are up against today. Were at the peak of fire season right now. It lasts through basically the middle to end of october. We have 85 uncontained large fires right now, including parts of montana, idaho, washington, oregon stretching into california. California has the worst of the conditions right now. Because humidity in redding, 7 . The air is so dry. Its the massive drought in this part of the country that means any fire that develops and most of them are caused by lightning without the rain associated with some of these thunderstorms and the dry conditions allow it to spread. In eugene, oregon, the humidity is up to 27 . 16 in vail. You head farther north and humidity will increase a little bit. Temperatures arent as high in the triple digits. Theyre in the 80s. Its the dry ground that allows the fires to spread out of control. We wont see improvements with that. Even with the humidity, they cant catch a break. Doesnt do anything. The fuel is on the ground. Need the rain. Thanks, dylan. Turning now to the race for the white house. Both donald trump and Hillary Clinton showed up at i iowa r cate fair. Chuck todd interviewed donld trump. Kelly odonnell is in des moines with our Political Roundup this morning. Kelly, good morning. Reporter good morning, erica. This was like politics in neon. Think of it as dueling, slowmoving spectacles across the fairgrounds. You had Hillary Clinton in one swarm, gop frontrunner donald trump in another as they brought their styles and their issues here competing for fairgoers attention. As Donald Trumps helicopter circled in the sky, Hillary Clinton was already on the move. Really good. She was at the center of a roving pack of cameras, security and iowa voters. Across the fairgrounds trump led his own frenzied throng. Sometimes gliding in golf course style. Trump did bring his own thrill ride to the carnival. For a few kids. I love my kids. Come here, kids. Does anybody want to take a ride . Reporter clintons visit here was followed by the issue of her private email server and classified information. Clinton said she did nothing wrong but blamed republicans for stirring controversy. This is the usual partisanization, which i have made up a word of anything that goes on. Reporter still, Iowa Democrats are considering their options. Bernie sanders is drawing huge crowds. Lot of people here. Thank you. Tell you what it says, it says that the people are sick and tired of establishment politics. Reporter while another democratic candidate, former rhode island governor, lincoln chaf i predicts joe biden will join the race. Well see what happens. Reporter trump talked with Nbcs Chuck Todd and revealed his first immigration plan to roll back obama executive orders aimed at undocumented children. Going to deport children. Were going to keep the families together. We have to do that. But they have to go. Reporter i talked to many voters who were excited about getting a chance to see trump and clinton regardless of politics. Some very interested in the politics. Trump told us hes heading off to jury duty in new york. Hillary clinton went to join her husband for downtime at Marthas Vineyard and fairgoers get a chance to see more politics. Former new york governor George Pataki will be here and one of the standouts, dr. Ben carson will be talking to voters and speaking about his issues mixing and mingling here today. Nice to see you, kelly, thanks. Chuck todd as moderator of meet the press has an interview with donald trump this good morning. Good morning. Good morning, craig. You spent time talking about that relationship that donald trump has with the clintons. We know the clintons went to his last wedding. That coziness raising questions inside that republican party. Heres that exchange. What do you tell conservatives who say you and the clintons are in cahoots . First of all, nobody has been tougher on Hillary Clinton than me. When bill clinton called me, i had made up my decision. He called me long avid made a decision and everyone knew i was running. It wasnt that. I think hes disappointed that im running, because im the one person thats going to beat her. Chuck, how far does that go in tamping down concerns over Donald Trumps motivations . Look, i dont know. I think the answer that hes given on different policy issues are still going to be where he runs into problems with conservatives or with some different conservatives. I mean, hes clearly with some populous fervor on immigration. Hes definitely got a lot of support in some parts of the conservative movement. But i think for sort of the internationalists wing of the conservative movement, more of the mainstream conservative movement, theyre always going to believe that trump is pulling a stunt and there are plenty, that no matter what he says with his reegs ship with the clinton, somehow hes there to help her. Chuck, you looked at the hood, kicked the tires. How does the trump brain work . Look, there are times as if hes winging it on this campaign, you feel that way. That could come through. This is a man with more intellectual depth than i think people realize. He reads everything. You can clearly see he reads everything. Now, the question is, does he read a little about a lot or dozs he read a lot about a ttle i think there are moments in the interview, craig, where you feel as if he really seems to know a lot about that issue and other moments youre like hes just read the newspaper clips on this issue. Thats sort of the conundrum that is him. Its hard to put him in a specific box, i think. We look forward to the interview. Chuck todd, thank you so much. Again, that exclusive interview in just a b on meet the press. It is likely to be a very busy day at airports along the east coast after hundreds of flights were canceled on saturday stranding thousands of passengers at some of the countrys busiest hubs all due to what the faa calls a computer glitch. I got to stay here in new york, maybe go to times square. I dont know. At least try to find something good in the situation maybe. Reporter not everybody handled it as well as you can imagine. Our experts tell us there should have been a backup system so clearly that failed as well. The faa says they dont think it was hacking. They dont think it was an accident. But as to what exactly caused all of this, they are still investigating, erica. We look forward to learning the answer once they give us one. Kristen, nice to see you. Lets turn to shan eel. They were eventually vindicated after a powerful protest and what better place for them to claim victory but on the most iconic Basketball Court in america. When the charlotte yille cavaliers took the court at Madison Square garden saturday night, they were playing more than just a game of basketball. Before the rush of crowds and lights, they had something to prove. Earlier this month, the Virginia Youth team made it all the way the final four of a big tournament when a technical foul dashed their hopes of a natihnal title. They were disqualified because e ofhtheir players, ka more a johnson, is a girl. She had been playing on the team for the last four years. But because of a new rule this year that banned girls, the league said the team wouldnt be able to play. In a show of defiance, the entire team showed up to the game in silent protest, trading in golden jerseys for pink ones to send a message. They invited the entire team to see the game and play one of their own. Her story is the same. They grew up playing with and against boys. Wildly popular while in office. He was famous for his pledge to, are you ready for this one, return to normalcy. In office in the beginning of what would become the roaring 20s, turns out harding was one wild and crazy guy. For his time, president Warren Harding was said to be one very handsome dude.
