Holmes and reena ninan. And we do begin now with the latest on that deadly shooting rampage in chattanooga, tennessee. A gunman opening fire at two military centers just minutes apart. Four marines were killed and three people wounded. The 24yearold gunman is also dead. Hes been identified as Mohammad Youssuf abdulazeez. A naturalized american citizen from kuwait. This morning, the motive still unclear. Our coverage begins with abcs jim avila. Bullet holes and shell casings at the military recruiting center where the rampage began. 10 45, a man in a silver ford mustang convertible, the top down, driving into the strip mall. Offices here for all four branches of the military. He just pulled up and next thing you know, he lifted up his arms like this with a big black gun. It was one shot and then it was just endless shots one after another, just unloading into the army. Dozens of shots. One marine hit in the leg. But within seconds, the gunman flees, racing seven miles down the highway to a Navy Reserve Support Center. The sound of gunfire is heard where he kills four marines and is shot to death himself. All units respond. All units respond. Were treating this as a mass casualty incident. Authorities now identifying him at 24yearold Mohammad Youssuf abdulazeez. His silver mustang found abandoned at the scene. Chattanooga now a city in crisis. This is a very, very terrible situation, and we need to go figure out how we can handle it. Reporter hospital Emergency Rooms locked down. Local colleges, too. Back at the strip mall, terrified workers barricading themselves inside stores and restaurants. But 30 minutes after the first shots were fired, it was all over. We are treating this as an act of domestic terrorism. A community in shock. This young woman carrying roses to honor those who were killed on this terrible day. The chattanooga mayor says this attack was incomprehensible and a nightmare. One being felt across the country. Jim avila, abc news, chattanooga. And heres what we ow about the suspect so far. Abdulazeez is from a middle class muslim family. He graduated in 2012 from the university of chattanooga with a degree in Electrical Engineering and reportedly had a good paying job. Abdulazeez was involved in mixed martial arts. Sources tell abc news that he was not under active surveillance at any point. At one point, his father was reportedly put on a terror watch list but later removed president obama promising a prompt and thorough investigation. To the four marines that have been killed, it is a heartbreaking circumstance for these individuals who have served our country with great valor to be to be killed in this fashion. Jurors took less than 13 hours to convict james holmes of first degree murder and dozens of other charges. Abcs brandi hitt with the emotion in the courtroom. We the jury find the defendant James Eagen Holmes guilty. James holmes stood quietly slowing no emotion as the jury rejected his insanity defense. Guilty, guilty, guilty. It took them just 13 hours to deliberate 165 charges. A clear verdict and moment the victims families anxiously awaited. You could not come back with any verdict but guilty. It was exactly three years ago next monday when holmes dressed head to toe in battle gear unleashed terror inside a midnight showing of the dark knight rises. Seven down in theater nine. Seven down. 12 people were killed, 70 others injured. The youngest victim just 6 years old. The entire 11week trial full of highly emotional testimony, riding on whether the admitted gunman was insane at the time. That guy was sane beyond a reasonable doubt. And he needs to be held accountable for what he did. You cant blame someone for coming down within schizophrenia. The jury made up of nine women and three men listening to more than 250 witnesses before making the decision. Now its onto the sentencing phase which involves a whole new trial including Opening Statements and witnesses. Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and for many an expanding bulls eye rash. Most cases resolve if treated promptly with antibiotics. If an infection is missed patients can develop arthritis, meningitis and irregular heart beats. The goal should be to prevent lyme disease.
