Richter, the digital news editor at the
Reading Eagle, described "Eye Contact" as a satirical reimagining of the myth of Medusa and Perseus, using the familiar story to examine what it means to be a hero.
The juried competition, in its third year, attracted playwrights from a 100-mile radius of the New Hope-based Phillipsâ Mill Community Association, receiving the maximum number of 50 submissions well before the deadline.Â

The judges noted that while people have been writing more this year due to the pandemic, the interest in this competition was particularly strong.
âThe word is out that Phillipsâ Mill offers emerging playwrights an opportunity to have their work critiqued by experienced judges and read by actors in a live setting,â said Valerie Eastburn, chair of drama at Phillipsâ Mill Community Association.
