Doctor turns grief into helping underprivileged new moms

Doctor turns grief into helping underprivileged new moms     KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KMBC) A Kansas City doctor has created a nonprofit to help underprivileged moms have the necessities to take care of a newborn baby. “As physicians, we try and fix the problem and I’ve found that grief is not fixable. It’s something you need to walk with your patients,” said Dr. Jessica Richter. Richter was expecting a baby boy. “Two days before I was supposed to have my son in October, I stopped feeling him move so we went to the hospital and there was no heartbeat,” she said.

The juried competition, in its third year, attracted playwrights from a 100-mile radius of the New Hope-based Phillips’ Mill Community Association, receiving the maximum number of 50 submissions well before the deadline.  - Advertisement - The judges noted that while people have been writing more this year due to the pandemic, the interest in this competition was particularly strong. “The word is out that Phillips’ Mill offers emerging playwrights an opportunity to have their work critiqued by experienced judges and read by actors in a live setting,” said Valerie Eastburn, chair of drama at Phillips’ Mill Community Association.
