And cia and fbi want to protect intelligencesharing agreements they had with other countries that have never been made public. Some countries dont want it known that they helped the United States. It comes down to the familiar phrase, sources and methods of intelligence gathering. We got some of the documents but not all of them. Reporter good morning, matt. Since Sherri Papini was found in chains along this highway. We are hearing of two fights that happened between her and her youngest captor. The second between the two kidnappers themselves. New this morning in the bizarre kidnapping of Sherri Papini, a violent fight and a gunshot, leading to her release. Detectives releasing calls from the time Sherri Papinis husband found his wife us with missing. Her hair is ripped out of it, in the headphones. Im thinking out that somebody grabbed her. Reporter investigators telling nbc news that statements from papini, describing a fight she says she had with the younger of her two alleged captors. Papini saying she slammed her kidnappers head into the toilet and injured her foot in the brawl. But a view of photos of papini was found pound, starved and halfbeaten, didnt see injuries to her feet. And now, theyre working to clarify her statements. From the beginning, the Sheriffs Department said the papini family was cooperating with the investigation. Keith papini said his wife was traumatized by what happened. One of the officers braced me and put his arm around me and said, prepare yourself. They branded her. Reporter investigators also tell nbc news that papini reported hearing a fight between the two kidnappers, and then, a gunshot. And shortly after, the young kidnapper drove her to the side of the highway and released her, where she was found by a truck driver. On the scene and advises she is seeing something. Reporter they were able to recover two dna profiles. A womans dna only her body and an unknown mans dna on her clothing. She is a howrisk victim in a lowrisk area at a lowrisk time of day. She shouldnt have been a victim. Reporter and today, nearly a year after papini is found, theres no motive and no major break in the case. This investigation has taken detectives as far away as detroit, where they interviewed a man who had been texts Sherri Papini in the days prior to her disappearance, about the possibility of two of them meeting up. At this point, the detectives determined they did not meet up and they have ruled hum out as a suspect in the case. So cool to hear the details of that case. Gadi, thank you so much. My sis, annie, and hodas sister, hala. And we talked about our special bonds. Anna is the blood going through my veins. Shes my sister. Shes always been there, all my life. My sister and i are bonded forever. My sister and i are like the sun and the moon. Together, we make a whole. My sister and i are best friends. Her sorrows are my sorrows. And her successes are my successes. Hala is the older sister. Oh, my god. Can we get which cut. Its too late. Embrace it. Anyone you lied to, its out here now. Annie and i are really different. Im loud and a fast talker. Shes thoughtful and reflective. Introspective versus blabby. Hala was kind of the leader. If hala did something, then i did something. We have home video proof of when hala was at the bottom of a hill when it was snowing. And she pointed up. Me and my brother got behind her and pushed her. Up the hill. And when we got to the top, she pointed down. And we pushed her down. As you can tell, who do you think is the bossier one now . I dont think its me. For me, annie and i were more like twins than older sister and younger sister. We were often in very similar clothes. Same outfit, but you would have read and i would have blue. Yours would be green. I would have yellow. Annie would i be in a fight. And my mom would separate us and say, go to your room. And about five minutes later, one of us would send the note under the door. I forgot about that. Want to be friends again . What are you doing . I was always protective as a sister. I was protective of her. Protective of my brother. He said, its cancer. You have breast cancer. I remember when she had her biopsy done. And i called new york. Im like, how is it going . She goes, great. This whole cheerleader she is that way. Shes like miss positive. So, i hung up the phone and go, you know what . Im going to take the train to new york to doublecheck. And i remember opening the door and you looked so drained. She wanted to show that dont worry about me, im fine. That was like a dark chapter. But thats usually when you need your sister the most. When my dad died, our whole family just hung on to each other for dear life because it was such a shock. We were just trying to figure out how to become a family of four when we had always been a family of five. Annie and i were both headed off to college. And we decided to live at home. And we had a spoken or unspoken pact on the weekends, even though we were college girls, one of us would always stay home on one of the weekend nights so my mom wouldnt be alone. That was something we did together as sisters. You probably remember this. So one second. Oh, yeah. So, i had to go inside a tube for some kind of mri or whatever it was. And i was scared to go in and all that stuff. Anyway, hala said hala sat next to me. And they said, you cant be in there. Because the radiation. You cant be in there. And he she said, im not leaving. And she sat there through the whole thing. I feel like my mom did such a unique and amazing job to create this foundation for us to know how to be a good sister, is to know how to be a good friend, to anyone. One of the best things about being sisters is you grew up in the same house. And you dont have to explain anything. I might say, i talked to mom. You know, she said good morning, so, you know. You have to be careful. Sometimes well look at each other and in a store, burst out laughing. And theres no reason. Its actually kind of odd. What most people dont know about my sister is that she, as happy and as excited about life as she appears on the air. Since she was young, shes been that way. She is a lot of peoples first phone call. And i think thats something to say. No matter whats happening, if i need clarity or wisdom, i call savannah. Annie has taught me about generosity. She is as happy for me if something good happens to me, as its happened to herself. Maybe happier. Maybe because we walked in each others shoes. I dont have to blaze that path, hala already did. Meantime, sunday marks the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandys hit on the new jersey shore. Matt traveled there to talk to Chris Christie about the progress thats been made and what the governor will do next. Reporter after 8 00 p. M. , october 29th, 2012, when Hurricane Sandy roared into new jersey. Leaving behind 36 billion in damages and 37 dead. As the anniversary approaches, i met with governor chris chris can i, who emerged from that crisis as a national figure. And asked him about seeing the scope of the damage. Went to belmar, new jersey. I landed my helicopter where the boardwalk used to be. When i landed, i said, where is the boardwalk. And the state police said its gone. Reporter what was the first thing you saw when you came down here after sandy . It was the devastated people that didnt know where to turn. And the destruction of the boardwalk. It was devastating to see it so physically changed. Reporter i think one time you said to me, in the wake of the storm, we talked to you and you said, give us five years. Give us five years and well be back. Has that played out in your opinion . I would say 85 of the recovery is done, overall. On the business side of things. Moodys came out and said that the shore counties are completely back. And theyre more resilient than they were before the storm. Reporter thats a business calculation youre talking about. You know whats going to happen. And its happened when we talked before. As soon as i air this interview, theres going to be people who say theyre not theyre not in their homes. About 1,000 people. Were going to keep working. Reporter were mistakes made in the process . Sure. Reporter those people when they scream anotht me, theyre at the bureaucracy. Mad at the process. Some of them are angry at you. Were mistakes made . Sure. In the beginning there were. This is the first time we did anything like this. In the beginning, the company we hired to run the rebuilding program, they werent good. We had two bids, we picked the lowest one and they werent good. We removed them. We have a new group in thats much better. There were mistakes made, matt. I would never say we were mistakefree. Reporter lets take the experience in new jersey and broaden it out. You know, people of houston are still reeling. People in florida. People in the caribbean. The u. S. Virgin islands from the Hurricane Season we just lived through. If you could impart one piece of advice to the people and the elected officials in those areas, based on something you learned here, what would it be . To the elected officials, i would tell them, you have to stay on top of the federal government, ever matter who the president is. That bureaucracy is hard to deal with. If you dont let them know youre watching them every minute, it will get away from you. To the people, i would say, dont solely depend on the government. Look to nonprofits. Look to friends and family to help you in this breach. Without that, there there be difficult days. Lreporter lets talk about you. In the five years since Hurricane Sandy, your personal fortunes have shifted. You were an extraordinarily popular governor at that time. And today, you leave office in 80something days and your Approval Ratings are very low. What happened . I ran for president. And people dont like when you have a job and youre looking for another one right in front of them. I endorsed donald trump. And that was incredibly unpopular in my state, as a blue state. And third, bridgegate happened. I think the combination of those three things, all three of which, had nothing to do with the excuecution of my job. Impacted people and the way they felt about me. You were the first bigname politician on the republican said, for the most part, to jump on the trump bandwagon. If he were to run against someone other than hillary clinton, who you didnt want to be president , would you support him again . If he runs again, i would support him, yes. Im not sure what would happen. Four years is a long time. Especially for someone who has not spent a lifetime in politics. I think the years affect them differently. Im sure the president will make whatever decision is best for him and his family and the country. If he runs again, absolutely, i expect to be with him. Very interesting to see what governor christie does next. Hes been a Prominent National politician for so long. Well see what his move is. Steve sweeney says a lot of things. But the truth is, hes not on our side. A bridge shut down over politics. Their biggest triumph was a traffic jam. Chris christie and kim guadagnos failures shortchanged our future. After 8 years incomes are down, costs are up and our economy is crawling. We are better than this. Schuylkill expressway around city avenue, slow but not too bad. Speeds are climbing and back up into the 40s. In Galloway Township there was a crash around mill road. Police are looking for the person who shot into a south philadelphia home. Were told its the home of a person wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of two teenagers. Investigators still trying to track down that person of interest. Battleship new jersey will hold a ceremonial lighting of its new gas heater system that will save energy and money and also make guests feel more comfortable. Ocean county authorities are cautioning parents to watch out for marijuana candy during halloween. They say marijuana candy can look like gummies or chocolate.
