Were live at Police Headquarters with details of the Security Officer who jumped into action. Outrage and violence, nearly a dozen cops in the midwest are injured this morning as protesters take to the streets in the wake of an officers acquittal. We are watching the storm. Hurricane jose is inching closer toward the coast. And it could have an impact at the delaware beaches and at the jersey shore. A little later on in the forecast we have the latest on joses track coming up. We are in Hurricane Season, dont forget. Good morning. This is nbc 10 news today, thanks for being with us. Im rosemary connors. Lets start with our weather. Its looking pretty good. Meteorologist krystal klei has the most accurate forecast in town. You just said were in Hurricane Season, were near the peak of Hurricane Season too. No surprise the tropics have been firing up so much. Lets take a look at Current Conditions out there. Right now were at 69, excuse me, and 61 mt. Holly. Trenton, youre at 66. 64 for allentown and also 64 in redding. A lot of 60s on the board right now. We also have some areas of more dense fog that have formed this morning particularly around parts of the jersey shore, up to millville and then over parts of reading and lancaster. This morning maybe if you can hold off until the temperature starts to rise a tad and then the fog will thin out and that will make for more safe driving conditions. But on radar and satellite you see we dont have a lot of cloud coverage to track throughout the area. No rain to track throughout the area. If we look at a wide view, theres no rain really moving our way either. We could have some just isolated afternoon showers pop up with some of our afternoon warming, but otherwise this is a pretty good weekend forecast that we have. Especially considering its capping off our summer in terms of weekends. Heres a look at satellite view. This is hurricane jose. What joses been doing is stuck in the same spot for about a week now. Its finally going to break free of that pattern and parallel the east coast. The question is how close will it get to us locally . In a few minutes well talk about the local impacts, whether or not it gets terribly close, we will feel some of joses wrath. Breaking news that were following. A Security Guard shoots and kills a gunman just outside of a bar. The guard fired his weapon after the man shot two passers by in north philadelphia. Now police are trying to get to the bottom of the motive in that first shooting. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal joins us live from Police Headquarters with details. Randy, what are you learning . Reporter rosemary, it happened outside of a hooka bar in north philly. That guard is being interviewed by detectives but were told hes being very cooperative and helping in the investigations. The first gunshots started flying before midnight near this hooka bar near germantown and cumberland streets. Police say a 30yearold suspect began wildly shooting at people outside who were walking down the street, including a man and a woman who were shot in the legs. They may have been patrons going to this bar. Police say that the Security Guard who was on duty saw what was happening and then confronted the suspect. But the guard was on duty at the time, standing by the front door when he observed only feet away from him this male approach from cumberland street and begin open fire on pedestrians that were walking down the street. Reporter its possible that Security Guard may have prevented even more injuries. Police say the Security Guard shot that suspect in the stomach. The suspect ran away and was taken by a private car to temple hospital where he died. Meantime, those other two victims shot in the legs arent expected to survive. And police are still trying to figure out exactly why this man started wildly shooting outside a bar. For now, live at Police Headquarters, Randy Gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. Breaking overnight, violent protests erupted in st. Louis after a judge acquitted a white former Police Officer in the murder of an africanamerican man. At least 11 officers are hurt in this melee. 32 people have been arrested. Protesters say they plan to return to the streets today. Now, this comes after a judge acquitted former officer Jason Stockley of firstdegree murder. He was accused of shooting Anthony Lamar smith and planting a weapon in his vehicle after a car chase in 2011. Back here in our area, parents in northeast philadelphia are on edge and on the look out after a man tried to lure children in the neighborhood six different times. Take a look. This is the car Police Believe is connected to the incidents that happened on thursday and friday. A neighbor gave this photo to police from her security camera. She helped a 10yearold girl yesterday who claimed a man unzipped his pants right in front of her on gillespie street. Parents are understandably concerned. They managed to get away, so thats the good part. Im happy about that. The children, that is, police say the man theyre looking for also targeted kids on ditman street on two different occasions. In one incident he pulled up alongside a girl walking to school asking if he could take her picture for money. And then earlier in the week on thursday he was seen taking pictures and recording children at the sullivan school. This morning we have some new details in the death of a College Student in the Lehigh Valley and how alcohol may have played a role in the initial call for help. Mccrae williams was found unconscious just outside of his dorm at Lafayette College on sunday afternoon. A School Official confirms to nbc 10 that a caller told Campus Police that the 19yearold lacrosse player had been drinking and needed medical help. Williams died at the hospital on monday. An autopsy revealed that williams died from blunt force head injuries, but its still unclear exactly how he got those injuries. Lets head now to Montgomery County where Teachers Union tells nbc 10 theyre optimistic about reaching a contract deal before strike deadline tomorrow night. The strike threat loomed over friday night football at methacton football game. The School District called the timing of the strike decision disheartening with students stuck in the middle. You cant come into a class without someone bringing up the strike to their teacher. Were not antiteacher. But were just, you know, looking out for the kids and hoping its resolved quickly. Contract negotiations between the School District and the Teachers Union began in january of this year. Wages and insurance premiums remain the sticking points. Bill cosbys retrial on sex Assault Charges is now scheduled for april 2nd. The trial will once again be held in norristown. Cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee at his home in 2004. The first trial as you may remember ended earlier in the summer without a verdict when the jury told the judge they were deadlocked. 5 38 right now on this saturday. Allentown now down to a quarter of a mile as well. From allentown to lancaster this stretch looking at more steady dense fog that has formed down at the surface. This happens when the dew point, which is measurement of some of the moisture in the air, is the same as the temperature at the ground. So what happens is when sunrise and ground temperature starts to warm up, that will burn off the fog. But until then we have some fog out there. Same deal along the shore and into parts of south jersey to dover, that quarter of a mile, thats really when the thick fog makes it difficult to drive. You have to use the fog lights and if possible like i said hold off a few hours and be much better off. Heres radar and satellite map, theres no rain to track out there. Today we may see some showers roll through. Look at hour by hour model. This is at 2 00 p. M. In the afternoon. We start to see more scattered cloud coverage and just some isolated showers possible. I think this model might be going a little too aggressive, but im not going to rule out a few spot showers. But what this does mean is that not everyone is going to see a little shower roll by. Some of us may be totally dry throughout the day. Its pretty scattered though in nature and its really burning off by the evening hours. Thats saturday at 9 30 in the evening. Our wind forecast for today also on the low side coming in from the east. And northeast. Winds about 5 to 10 miles per hour. Today, fairly light winds, very little rain. In a new jersey court ruling, a man who drank tainted beer in Atlantic City will get half of a 750,000 jury award. Richard warshot won the award after burning his esophagus and stomach at a restaurant at har ras casino in 2012. The beer was tainted with a chemical used to clean the tap lines. The restaurants parent company, which blamed the cleaning company, says it will appeal the ruling. Temple university is investigating an alleged case of racial intimidation on campus. Two black students tell nbc 10 they found a banana hanging just outside their dorm rooms monday night. The roommates say they confronted the student they claim was responsible. They also tell us the student told them he tossed the baa na in t na in the air and it somehow landed on the door. The student will be punished. The roommates will have a say in the penalty. Understand what they did wrong, you know what i mean . You think they should be punished at all . Suspended . Anything like that . Yeah. That was rude. This by the way is the second incident at that same dorm this week. The school says it will not tolerate Unlawful Discrimination or harassment. Millions of people in florida are still without power after hurricane irma. The states Largest Utility Company says power in the hardest hit areas wont be restored for another week. Some peco crews are down in the devastation zone to help get floridas electrical grid up and running again. Keith rails from berks county is one of those workers. His wife, sarah, showed us this picture keith sent to her of some of the damage. She tells us keith will be sleeping in a trailer with other workers over the next two weeks while they work to get the power back on. Sarah in the meantime is collected donated goods and shipping them to her husband and his fellow workers. New jerseys Air National Guard is doing its part in irma relief efforts. Guard members left for the u. S. Virgin islands yesterday. Theyre ready to help out there for the next two months. Nearly 20,000 army and Air National Guard members from all over the country are helping out in florida. 5 48 right now on this saturday. Irma is in the past, were keeping an eye on jose. But in the meantime our weather is pretty pleasant. And were just keeping an eye on jose, correct, krystal . Yeah, thats exactly right. This is something weve been watching now for quite some time because joses been taking its time meandering out to sea. Now that we are completely done with irma, its kind of breaking free of its pattern and going to start riding the east coast. But far enough out it will be more like we feel impacts necessarily than feel the exact effects of jose. Well, thats more in a moment. Look at radar and satellite currently and our picture is pretty good, wide or tight. We have a few spotty clouds overhead. As we go through our weekend forecast, both days arent bad. For saturday, 84 degrees in philadelphia, 82 in the Lehigh Valley and 79 at the shore. Now, i want to point out that although the icons show weve got a mix of clouds and sun, an isolated showers certainly possible as we go into the afternoon hours, especially from philly, north and west. Not a lot of rain, isolated means a little spot. That means theres just a chance. But there is a chance saturday. sunday even lesser likelihood of rain, more so mix of clouds and sun. And temperatures still warmer than average. By the way the average in philly for this time of year is 78, so were talking about five degrees warmer on sunday than we typically are. Now lets switch over to hurricane jose. Category 1 hurricane right now. And you can see from the satellite imagery here that its still kind of stuck in the same spot it was about a week ago. But, like i mentioned, its now going to start breaking free and riding the east coast far enough off the coast that instead of the direct impacts we feel things like this, a moderate risk for rip current for us today. Check in with beach patrol, it could be dangerous out there because rip currents have potential to develop with more rough seas in place. Really the best idea is to not get in the water when we start to see these kind of waters churning about. Also Small Craft Advisory in place along the shorelines, building waves to six feet, dangerous boating conditions are possible, especially for small craft. This is going to be the case for the next several days in a row as well because joses just going to be getting closer and closer. Look at the computer forecast models here, through tuesday its a pretty Straight Line to the north its going to take, keeping it offshore all the way up until we get closer to parts of new england. Take a closer look here. Most of the models agree were not talking landfall for us, but thats not out of the realm of possibility for it to get closer to feel more of the Tropical Storm like conditions. At this point talk about what impacts we are expecting. Remember this is a few days out, talking tuesday to wednesday this would pass to the east of us. But at this point waves, were looking at rough seas and minor coastal flooding or beach erosion possible. Winds gust 40 to 45 miles per hour, the highest gusts will be at the shore and delaware beaches, say gusts 35 to 40 inland around philly. And rain most likely. And the heaviest would be near the shore and delaware beaches, but i dont necessarily at this point think flooding rain because the center of the storm would be too far to the east.
