Im going to make two versions of strawberry short cake. Home made classic and a nobake. If you want to do what mom used to make i loved her recipe. Basically you are looking at strawberries sugar, flour, butter salt cream, vanilla and confectioners sugar. Start with fresh strawberries. The best ones in the market. So you dont waste any. Take a huller and scoop that out just like that. Then cut them in half. Some people like them quartered. I like them in half. You want to get as much juice out of this as possible so macerate this. Take a bunch of strawberries a cup of sugar. Pour that in. You will put in a little water and put it in the fridge and let it sit. How long . Basically the time it takes you to make your dough and bake it. So you will take flour. You have a little sugar here. Some people like it sweeter. Baking soda and salt. The important thing is youve got to have a stick of butter and its got to be cold. Cold. Make sure it stays in the fridge until you are ready to use it. Mash it up until they are a pealike situation. You dont want to use a blender because it will overwork the batter. The dough and that will be a problem. Eventually well add heavy cream and a little vanilla. Mix that up a little bit more. For times sake assume its come together. You get this down and make your dough. Then pour it out. Do that to the kids and they will run. Youre going to pour this out. It would be a nice pile of dough. To make sure you keep a clean cut, a little tip here you can use a fwlaszglass. Basically, i like to put porchment paper. Its one of the greatest inventions ever. Pop it in the oven at 350. It comes out like this. This is my favorite summer dessert. Take your knife and cut it once its cooled. You spoon it over the strawberries. This is tasty.
