The schuylkill expressway eastbound, a 13minute trip. The blue route is doing fine as well. Bullets fly through an intersection in north philadelphia sending one woman to the hospital and narrowly missing two others. Now police are looking for the shooter. Katy zachry is live for us at Temple University hospital with an update. Reporter whats most startling is the woman who did not shot did not realize she was injured until she had a bull net her back. It took her a few secs to realize that. I just got off the phone with central detectives. They were investigating overnight. They say they are still looking for the shooter. Overnight investigators were interviewing witnesses and looking at Surveillance Video they have from nearby witnesses this shooting happened around 11 00 on 17th street between susquehanna and diamond. That area was blocked off. A 32yearold woman was driving herself and a couple of friends as they heard gunfire. Nearly a dozen shots were fired and that group was lucky their vehicle was not hit more times. Its a small vehicle and the bullet went through the trunk, through the rear seat on the drivers side and then went through the drivers seat, striking the driver. She realized that she felt pain in her back and she realized she had been shot. Police took her from the vehicle, transported her to temple hospital where shes presently in stable condition. Reporter when police first got to her she was able to talk to them and tell them what happened. This is the ekd second time in just two days that someone was hit in north philadelphia by a stray bullet. Youre looking at video from 20th and cambria streets wednesday night when a grandmother was hit while she was sitting on her front porch enjoying the evening. Regarding the evernight shooting, the most recent one, police say they found some drugs at the scene, which leads them to believe that this shooting was likely drug related. New this morning in the terror in tennessee, the fbi says it has no evidence that anyone but a lone gunman was involved in that deadly shooting of four marines at military sites in chattanooga. But investigators still dont know why he did it. Authorities say Mohammod Youssuf abdulazeez opened fire from inside his car when he drove by a military recruiting center at a strip mall. He then drove seven miles to a navy Marine Training center and opened fire again. He was shot and killed by police. Heres what we know. Investigators say abdulazeez was born in kuwait they have not found any connection to any terrorist organization but Authorities Say they are investigating the shooting as a domestic terrorism crime. The question is really what happened to this woman . Police say 27yearold Jasmine Wright was found beaten and possibly strangled in a third floor apartment here. The victims family had been concerned about her wellbeing they asked the property manager to check in on her. He was the one who found her dead. We have been talking with neighbors since yesterday, since this woman was found. They tell us that wright was well liked and respected. Theyre in shock. Police are still out here keeping watch on the house until the investigators get back out here. Many questions still unanswered. Police tell us as of right now, there are no official suspects. The fbi is on the scene taking the lead in this investigation. Investigators have been here throughout the night trying to figure out what may have led this gunman to open fire at those two separate military centers. The first one happened around 10 45 yesterday morning. More than 25 unrods of ammunition were fired here at this recruiting center. Then the gunman identified as Mohammod Youssuf abdulazeez, he drove seven miles, killing four marines and wounding others. Hes a naturalized u. S. Citizen, born in kuwait. Federal Authorities Say he was not on their radar and was not part of a watch list beforehand. They are investigating this and trying to see if this may have perhaps been isisinspired. They suspect that could be the case because of the timing of this attack coming around the end of ramadan as well as the targets, two military centers. We the jury find the defendant, James Eagan Holmes guilty of murder in the first degree after deliberation. Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 others when he opened fire inside an aurora Movie Theater nearly three years ago. Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The jury decided he was capable of knowing right from wrong. The d. A. Took a lot of time to emphasize how deeceitfuldeceitful, how deceptive james holmes was. That didnt go just to insanity that also went to character. The jury will decide if he will serve life in prison or will be sentenced to death. The senate wants changes made to the no child left behind education law. Right now, the law requires mandatory testing in grades three through eight and again in high school. Yesterday, the senate voted to keep the testing but give states more control over how to use the test to assess performance of schools, teachers and students. The house passed its own update last wednesday and now the chambers will have to reach a compromise. Meantime, from our Delaware Bureau it appears Public School students in delaware will not have a choice to opt out of standardized tests unless lawmakers do something. Governor jack markell vetoed a bill that would have allowed them to skip the common core exams. Parent groups who supported the bill are demanding the General Assembly overvied the veto. The State Government began Legal Proceedings to seize land from two beach front Property Owners one in ship bottom and the other in ocean city. The filings happened yesterday. Officials are using the power of Eminent Domain to try to take the land where they want to build stormprotected dunes. Property owners are refusing to give up their land rights. Police remain on the scene right there is the house where the 27yearold woman was found dead yesterday. Police say 27yearold Jasmine Wright was found beaten and possibly strangled. Investigators are calling this death suspicious. Heres the thing. There was no forced entry, the apartment was not ransacked. There are no official suspects but they are following some leads. Neighbors tell us this woman was well liked and professional. Theyre anxious to figure out what the motive was and what happened. Investigators are hoping to figure out the same thing. It happened along 17th street near susquehanna. A woman driving down the street sold investigators her car was hit by gunfire. She didnt realize until a few blocks after that she had been hit by that bullet too. There were two passengers in her small car that narrowly missed getting injured as pell.
