Wayne State University is joining a growing number of colleges in Michigan offering financial assistance to front-line workers.
The Detroit-based university is introducing the $4,000 Frontliners Forward scholarship, providing community college transfer students $2,000 per academic year for two consecutive years to work toward a bachelor's degree, according to a Wednesday news release.
To be eligible, students must complete the state-funded Futures for Frontliners program, which offers free community college to residents working in jobs deemed essential during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 100,000 have applied for the program out of an estimated 625,000 who qualified.
