The pilot was killed in the flaming wreckage of his single engine plane moments after investigators say he tried to make an Emergency Landing on South Oyster Bay road. Instead, the plane missed the street and crashed in the middle of the main line of the long island railroad. But the desperate maneuver saved his passenger pulled to safety by an eyewitness to the crash. My coworker saw a plane the plane upside down. He said that plane is going down. Investigators say that single engine plane had just taken off from the Essex County Airport when it crashed in a wooded area. Ntsb agents are examining the wreckage in west cold well. We are at the corner of mountain boulevard and mount bethel road where police have it blocked off. They blocked a perimeter seemingly for miles around the scene. It is way up this road up mount bethel road, flashing lights way in the distance. We will show you pictures from instagram. An Eyewitness News viewer posted it on instagram. You can see the heavily armed tactical officers warming this neighborhood in the aftermath of this shooting around 1 30. Authorities have refused to release any information to us or the community about what did happen there. There is a report of gunfire. There have been a variety of differing stories, conflicting reports whether or not there were shooting victims. We do have an eyewitness who said she heard the gunshots themselves. Here is what she had to say. I heard a series of loud pops or bangs. I wasnt sure at that time if it sounded like gunshots. A quick quiet then three more. A lot of us are home all day, we dont lock our doors. I marie think that now. Reporter so, again, report of a suspect barricaded in a building, potentially a home in Warren Township. Julian bond, one of the founders of the student nonviolent coordinating committee. This is mr. Bond behind me. He is one of the founders of the sov they were poverty southern approval committee. He was 75 years old. He is being remembered as a man whose eloquence inspired a generation of civil rights leaders. Julian bond was born january 14, 1940 in nashville, tennessee and grew to be a major force in the campaign for racial equality. Often seen at the forefront of protests against segregation, he never seated his position as a civil rights icon. He helped to start a committee that gave younger African Americans a voice. He was elected to the Georgia House of representatives but was refused his seat because of his antiwar stance on the u. S. Supreme court eventually ruled in his favor and he was seated two years later. In 1971, he helped found the Southern Poverty Law Center then in 1998 bond was elected Board Chairman of the naacp, a post he held for 10 years. Today former ambassador and fellow civil rights activist andrew young said of bond, i think his legacy will be he was a lifetime struggler. President obama called the late a friend. Reporter sandra, she was brutally murdered feet away apartment. Many are morning the sudden loss of edena hines, the stepdaughter of famed Actor Morgan Freeman. Friends and family say her bright light was just beginning to shine. Police received a 911 call before 3 00 of a reported altercation outside of this apartment. When they arrived they found 33 multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was trying to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, morgan freeman, graduating from nyus prestigious acting program. A 30yearold male at the crime scene was taken into custody by police. We spoke to an eyewitness that saw the whole thing unfold from his window. I go to the window and i see him on top of a woman and i couldnt really see what was going on. Then the police came, like two police cars came and arrested the guy.
