Workers opened a valve that caused water to shoot on to the street near 5th avenue and 52nd street in sunset park. The work is connected to the huge sinkhole that opened up a few blocks away yesterday. No one was hurt. We are told this will not interrupt Water Service. Thousands of long island customers are struggling without power 24 hours after a powerful storm swept through the area. Here are the latest numbers. 12,691 in Suffolk County without power. 366 in nassau county. They are working hard to get the debris removed and pse g is on scene trying to get the power back. This is hill top road. As you can see, these power lines are still down the meters were ripped off some of these houses. Not too long ago we spoke to a resident on hilltop road and here is some of what he had to say. Crews cant make a repair to the water main until the crane is moved. A. J. Ross is live in Cliffside Park with the latest. Reporter officials are speculating the weight of this massive crane could have been a major factor in the water main break which is why they are in no rush to remove it. They are waiting on a crane expert to arrive on scene to give the okay as utility crews work around the crane to troubleshoot the broken water main and restore Water Service throughout the area. That was around 7 20 this morning. Trite tors working on the crane noticed water gushing near the cranes cabin at grant and anderson avenues. The crane was laid down across the street beginning to lift its boom when the rupture occurred. Bergen county executive jim tedesco said the pipeline released a lot of water before crews could tap it. Now the challenge is to work around the massive crane that they are concerned could further damage the roadway. They keep a close watch on the primary electric and gas lines below the street. 200 people are without water below the area. Hundreds in surrounding communities have lower water pressure. It could be a while before things return to normal. I think logically you could say that weight played a factor in the water main breaking but we will have to do an in depth study. Im sure with the crane regulations that are in place, there will be further investigations by other officials to look into that. Reporter so, again, no easy process here. Ramos thought he would never see the wallet containing family photos. It was in a farm house in salzburg. He found it during renovations. He decided to look for him.
