DAVAO CITY - The supposed vaccination rollout for children aged 5 to 11 years old scheduled for February 7 has been postponed, the Davao City Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Task Force announced Friday. In a radio interview, Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, said the postponement was due to the delay in the arrival of the pediatric Pfizer vaccines. "The Department of Health (DOH) attributed logistical challenges as the cause of the delay. The postponement of the National Capital Region's pediatric vaccination rollout earlier set on February 4 will also affect the city and other local government units (LGUs)," she said. However, Schlosser said that the delay in the pediatric vaccination rollout is advantageous for the city's Vaccination Cluster Team for they will have more time to prepare for its seamless conduct. She added that the pilot pediatric vaccination rollout for five to 11 years old will be in the hospitals. However, she bared that Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) might not be able to participate as it is currently overwhelmed with the surge of Covid-19 cases who are fully utilizing its ward, intensive care units (ICU), and isolation beds. "Whatever effective ways and practices that will come out from the launch will be continued while those ineffective will be enhanced and modified," she added. Schlosser did not disclose any new vaccination schedule as they are still waiting for the supplies from the DOH. She clarified that only Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine has been given emergency use authorization for 5- to 11-year-old kids and the vaccine dosage is 0.2ml, lower than the standard dosage of 0.3ml for other population age groups.
