With as much love as I have the strange adaptation of
Dune done in 1984 and all the history around it and its production, and my fascination for what Jodorowsky was attempting to do in the 70s to adapt it, the reveal what feels like so long ago that Denis Villeneuve was going to adapt the film after working on projects like
Arrival and
Blade Runner 2049 truly got my hopes up. The casting has been intriguing, the talent level fantastic, and the teases and hints incredibly exciting.
When we got the news awhile ago about how WarnerMedia was bringing a number of its 2021 films out in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time, that lead to a lot of confusion on the distributors side as partner Legendary Pictures wasn’t consulted. This film is one that they see as the launch of a potentially big franchise and splitting it through theatrical and streaming was not what they had in mind.
