Tara, please tell us a little about yourself, your family, and why you were interested in the Treasurer’s position at the Newcomerstown Historical Society?
“I have always referred to Newcomerstown as my hometown. My mother, Carole Thomas Cornell, grew up here, and was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School. Her parents were the late Bill and Edith Thomas. My Grandpa was the water superintendent for many years, and my Grandma served as water clerk. So many memories as a child were spending as much time as possible with my grandparents in the Water Works house on State Street. Whenever we could, our parents would make the three-hour drive from our current home to Newcomerstown. My brothers and I knew as soon as we hit Newark and stopped at Burger Chef; we were getting closer to the town we thought of as home. Jeff, David, Ike, and I have so many awesome recollections of those years and hanging out with the neighborhood kids on the east end of town. We loved riding our bikes to Cy Young Park to go swimming and to this day, we refer to the sewage plant as “Papaw’s poopy plant.” All the Westfall kids remain close with life-long friends from those days.
