charged with drunk driving after police say she struck and killed a man on interstate 95 in springfield early this morning. police say additional charges against carol rude johnson of woodbridge are pending. a male driver pulled on to the right shoulder of i-95 and was standing next to his car when police say the 19-year-old hit him. rue johnson left the scene but officials tracked her down in prince george's county. the name of the victim has not been released yet. police are searching for the driver in another hit and run that left a homeless man dead. fairfax city police say 62-year- old james ralph davidson was killed when a driver hit him. davidson was crossing the six lane highway of fairfax boulevard near draper drive around 1:00 this morning. arlington county police helped find the suv a 2010 jeep compass that was involved in the hit and run but the driver was nowhere to be found. police are still trying to sort out a bizarre robbery attempt that ended with the would-be robber's death. it happened alodge north view drive in bowie. ken molestina is there now and ken, what's the very latest on the strange incident? >> reporter: you know, strange is right. really don't know any other way to call it. this has weird written all over it and police are still investigating trying to get to the bottom of this. i want to show you what remains on the spot where the burned out cab lay yesterday. 4300 block of north view over here is a primarily a commercial zone. it's all quiet now but let's show you some aerial footage of yesterday just before 5:00. run this down for you. according to police here's what they say happened. shortly before 5:00 is bowie police officer came up on a smoky cab. the cab driver was injured. he was standing outside of the cab complaining from some kind of burns. apparently the police officer then looked inside of the cab and found a dead man in the backseat. according to police, the cab driver said that man tried to rob him using some sort of a flammable liquid. it appears the liquid may have been ignited. the cab burned and the man burned to death in the back by the very own liquid he tried pouring on the cab driver. back out here live again and show you what remains, again there was some police tape put up here earlier. on the weekends this area is pretty quiet but during the week this is an area that would have a lot of traffic. we're being told that the cab driver picked up this man from the largo metro station. we understand that the driver worked for the independent cab company. we don't know any of their ids right now and police again still trying to get to the bottom of this very, very bizarre death investigation. surae? >> all right, thank you ken for that update this evening. this weekend, signifies the end of summer for some kids. students in prince george's county are heading back to school on monday if you can believe it already. as armando trull reports, these kids will be well equipped for a successful school year. >> reporter: it was nearly a standing room only crowd at the showplace arena. as thousands of students and parents attended the prince george's county back to school fair. many youngsters were eager for monday. what's going to be your favorite thing at school? >> my teachers. >> really? you like your teacher? >> reporter: the early birds got free backpacks full of school supplies. others, not so lucky. >> we came for the backpacks. they're gone. ♪ >> reporter: bags and note bags students were jumping for joy and seemed ready for their abcs and their 123s. what's one a successful school year including before and afterschool programs. >> we're actually going to go out to a mechanic shop and show them how to change tires and the oil and brake pads. it's practical things that men should know. >> can i get in on that? >> you can sure get in on that. >> i have a truck. >> i don't know how to change the brake pads and i'm going to learn too. >> i've been learning basically how to be a better grown man when i'm older. >> reporter: on monday remember that all of these students and their parents will be doing the same so give yourself some extra time. and couple of days of summer. d.c. and montgomery county kids go back to school august 27th a week from monday and fairfax county students return after labor day. we are getting a closer look to finding out where the new home for the redskins' training camp will be. a spokeswoman for richmond's mayor says a recommendation for two locations will be announced later this month. the redskins' camp has been held for the last decade at the team's corporate headquarters in ashburn. in june, the team's general manager bruce allen and virginia governor bob mcdonnell announced an eight year agreement to hold a two a day preseason camps in richmond for eight years. coming up on 9news now, firefighters trying to gain control of spreading wildfires out west. we'll have the latest on the weekend battle. for the seventh time could have a parole hearing as early as tuesday. new york department of corrections officials say mark david chapman is scheduled to be interviewed by members of the parole board this week. she says they could make a decision by thursday or friday. chapman shot lennon in december of 1980 outside the manhattan apartment building where the former beatle lived. he was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second degree murder. chapman was denied parole for the sixth time in september of 2010. a wildfire in idaho has grown by 15 miles overnight. fire crews are consistenting up to protect about -- setting up to protect about 66 residential buildings in the path of the 130 square mile blaze. more than 1,000 firefighters are battling the massive blaze. residents are fearing the worst. >> i'm pretty attached to this place. so it means a lot. so -- it's -- huh. it's going to be hard. but we're hopeful it's not going to come this way and it's going to be great. but my parents -- i've been up here a lot since i was a kid. >> more than 100 square miles have burned in the last week. check out this scene on a highway in north carolina. authorities say a car smashed into a tractor-trailer hauling beer on a north carolina interstate last night. spilling suds all over the highway. the rig was carrying nearly 43,000 pounds of beer. crews spent more than five hours cleaning up the mess on interstate 85 in gaston county. no one was seriously injured but the wreck caused major traffic delays and no word on what beer maker was will feel like back to school weather in the sense it may feel like fall around here. in fact looks like temperatures will drop into the 70s in some locations. we'll get to that in just a moment but through. the dew points in the 50s. winds are north at around 9 miles per hour. live doppler 9000 hd has been quiet today. we saw some showers early in the morning but now temperatures have cooled down into the lower 80s and frederick, 79 for leesburg and 82 in culpeper and annapolis you're at 81 degrees. it was a really nice day. okay, it really feels nice because of the dew points. we're talking dew points in the mid 50s. here's a look at our dew point comfort index. in the 50s, yeah, that is really nice. open the windows and i've been doing that to kind of let the air clear things out. so cooler temps are on the way. it will be nice and not humid once again for tonight. a great night to have dinner on the patio. sunday still mild and not humid. maybe a bit unsettled and same
