Another breaking story tonight, the deadly crash of a commercial spacecraft. Witnesses say the craft exploded during a test flight over californias mojave desert. The local sheriff says one pilot was killed and a second pilot ejected but seriously injured. No one else was aboard. The wreckage just scattered across the desert. This was a suborbital passenger craft called space shape 2 developed by billionaire Richard Branson virgin galactic. Hundreds of people put down deposits hoping to someday fly aboard the craft. Virgin galactic said the spaceship experienced some sort of inflight anomaly. The man charged with kidnapping Hannah Graham appeared in a Fairfax County courtroom today in a different case. The attack matthew is charged with happened september 24th of 2005 off jermantown road. A woman was picked up and carried to this field where she was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted. She is coming and she is relieved i think. I dont want to say happy because theres no joy in any of this for any of us, but i think shes satisfied that maybe well get some resolution. Reporter the woman moved back to her home country of india, but according to Commonwealth Attorney ray morrogh she is absolutely ready to testify in a case judge smith wants to hear quickly. Reporter before the judge appointed those attorneys he first established the fact that Jesse Matthew is indigent and didnt have a job or any money. Camblos filed a motion for a psychiatric evaluation. The judge wants to read over it first. We expect to hear that motion during the next hearing in two weeks november 14th. We compact to see matthew in person and expect him to enter a plea guilty or not guilty. D. C. Police need your help to find a man who ambushed and attacked an officer with an axe early this morning. It happened in the brookland neighborhood of northeast d. C. Debra alfarone is live from that community to fill us in on a bizarre attack tonight. Reporter what happened was unprovoked. It was scary and the chief told me right here the Patrol Officer was here. He saw a suspicious man. He goes down here and he comes back, circles back, come down this alley in his patrol car. What happens next is that suspect comes at him, ambushes him, takes that axe, swings it into his window shattering it just inches from his face and then he takes off. I want to show you a picture right now of that actual axe that is in that window. Its still embedded in that window when that picture was taken. An officer run after him. While hes trying to take him down he gets hurt. The suspect drops the axe, takes off and he is still out there. Police are looking at the axe for clues and also looking for video from the neighborhood. That officer is expected to be okay the chief tell says us. This dangerous suspect on the loose and its halloween, so with more people out tonight more than usual, they could cross path with this person. Also a man in Prince Georges County sentenced today to life in prison plus 30 years for killing a high school student. 21yearold travon bennett was found guilty of Second Degree murder and Armed Robbery in the death of 18yearold marckel ross. Right now investigators are trying to figure out if leaflets found near a Marine Corps Base in quantico are associated with isis. When i first heard nfl was on Breast Cancer awareness, i jumped right on it because i want to honor my aunt lisa that passed away from Breast Cancer. Reporter senior defensive back Christopher Mordecai knows how serious Breast Cancer is and hopes people continue raising money for research, but no. 21 is not the only one on the field who has been touched by the disease. October, not just october, every day is different for me because i know Breast Cancer is huge. Thats a big thing. Reporter head coach steve scott lost his mother Carolyn Diane carter in 2006 after a 10 year battle with Breast Cancer. He remembers her fondly. She was fast, too but she was a pistol. I just miss being able to call her say hey, you know, what do you think about this, come by. Breast cancer doesnt have any name on it. She was probably one of the most giving persons out there. She would give the shirt off her back to anybody. Reporter coach scott carries something on his back to remind him about his loss. I try to represent her all year. It is an opportunity for our congress to look like our america. Reporter if southfield sends lawrence to washington, the house could have as many as 20 black congresswomen, another Record Number. The Obama Presidency it appears has had this historic dynamic that has allowed now a new urge. Reporter political scientist frank bill yam says president gilliam says president obamas election not only allowed him to run but started a grassroot structure. He was able to not count on big donors but everyday people. Reporter in san antonio, texas, republican bill herd is working on his ground game in a key swing district. You have to show up. Reporter we spoke to chief lanier and she said the Police Officer was patrolling the area when that officer saw a suspicious person around here. He pulls back into this alley and thats when that suspect comes at him, ambushes him, takes that axe and smashes the window just inches from his face shattering the glass and really shattering the calm of this neighborhood and people who live here and also the sense of security that Police Officers have. Lets hope they catch him quick. Reporter an axe smashing through a window just inches from an officers face, the officer chases the attacker, gets hurt trying to take him down. The suspect drops the axe and gets away. Both people on the street its tragic. Its terrible. Reporter and the chief in charge of officers on the beat are unnerved by this unprovoked act of violence. We need to get this person off the street. Reporter just days ago a man attacked two officers with a hatchet in queens, new york. Warnings in alerts are multiplying informing tv reporters and Law Enforcement they are targets for isil linked terrorists trying to radicalize here in the u. S. Chief lanier says she talked to new york citys top cop this morning. At this point theres no connection between this mornings axe attack here to what happened in new york, nor to anything related to isil, but she has been warning her officers several times a day for days to stay alert. We know there is an increased threat level and we know that theres an increased threat level on Uniformed Services and for us to not be on our toes both on and off duty in Law Enforcement and this environment is just careless.
