Most contain a chemical product. Theres a risk in there that consumers should be informed about. Reporter Consumer Reports recently tested 110 samples of soft drinks bought in the new york area and california. Including iced tea, root beer, and others. The chemical, four in the i causing cancer in mice showed up at varying levels across all brands tested that contain the Caramel Coloring. Some sodas were actually fairly low in their levels of 4nei where some soft drinks were extremely high. Reporter the highest level, Consumer Reports found were in pepsi one. All the cocacola samples were far lower. The limitation in this study is a very small sample size. So we cant really drawconclusions about any one given brand. Reporter but Consumer Reports says that people should know if the Caramel Coloring they are drinking causes a certain carcinogen. But the labels simply says that the Caramel Color or artificial color, so you dont know the type you are getting. Consumers who want to avoid this hazard should avoid Caramel Colors in sodas altogether. Reporter check the labels on the other foods too includingbarbecue sauce, beer, and bread. Consumer reports is calling on the food and Drug Administration to set some limits and require more explicit labeling. Consumer reports told pepsico about their findings.
