Were covering two big developing stories. Two persons of interest in custody for a carjacking that killed three kids. We start with the damage left behind from that wild weather over the last few hours. Jenny choice is in camden. Whats going on. Reporter well, mike earlier this morning this wooden water tank here in camden was engulfedly in flames. You can see the collared remains that were left behind. According to reports the fire was caused by a Lightning Strike but this is not the only area that was damaged by this storm. Earlier this morning we were in medford, new jersey, and in a neighborhoods off of hartford road and taunton boulevard. We found one tree toppled across the drive way and power lines that were lying low on the roadways. One tree slammed into the roof of a home. It happened around 1 30 this morning. The homeowner told me that he had water coming into his house. He made the decision to pack up his family including their pets and find another place to stay overnight. Tonight township crews were cruising through the neighborhood assessing damage looking for problem spots especially those live wires down and im sure that cleanup will continue throughout the day. Mike and kerry. My goodness. All right, its almost 7 05. And meanwhile dozens of people forced from their Center City Apartment building overnight because of flooding concerns from yesterdays storms. Happened about 2 oclock this morning at the midtown apartments on walnut street. Officials say the roof began to leak and that set off an alarm. Residents were forced outside for a couple of hours finally allowed back in this morning. I think thats over by 12th an walnut. Peco reporting more than 4,000 customers are without power. Most of them located in bucks and montgomery counties. Pse g reporting just over 2,000 outages. Most of which are in burlington and gloucester counties. Another big story involving fridays carjacking crash that killed three children in philadelphias tioga section. Every time we put up the pictures its heartbreaking. Authorities have taken two persons of interest into custody and steve of course is on the story. Over at the round house. Steve. Reporter well, that reward was up to 110 grand but it wasnt that big six figure reward that broke this case apparently but maybe a mothers instinct and perhaps some unexplained cuts bruises and bloody clothes with her 19yearold son. The daily news morning, break in carjacking tragedy and the sub headline cops say theyre questioning two persons of interest. Then the front page of the Inquirer Police question two in fatal car theft. The reason they got the two is the 19yearold walked in here to headquarters with his mom and Church Minister last night soon after they obviously talked to him and they had the who and where on accused carjack killer number two. They found him just a short walk up north sixth street from where the carjacking began of the 45yearold woman. Now along with whatever the two could tell them, detectives also have blood evidence likely to link them in the suv and on the bloody clothes that theyve recovered. Were looking back now at our live picture of commissioner Charles Ramsey who may be able to give us an update normally he gets an update from his homicide detectives after he talks to them. This case was unusual. It was a big case. Even the mayor from paris was calling in to find out updates. Well find out anything new that the commissioner may have found out since these two guys were taken into custody. All right. Good morning, commissioner. Can you tell us about the two men in custody. Theres not a lot i can tell you right now. We do have a couple people were talking to. Well be having a briefing for you folks a little later on this morning to bring you up to speed on whats going on but obviously since this tragedy occurred, our detectives have been working around the clock staying in close contact with me and with everyone who needs to know whats going on and we do have some positive direction in this case. Reporter can you tell us how these people came to your attention. Is there something about a surrender . I dont want to get into a lot of detail at this point in time. Well save that for later on this morning. Hopefully well have a lot more to tell you. Reporter have there been a lot of tips or calls coming in. Well, weve had some. Its been an awful lot of good detective work, too, and thats really where we are right now. So, well get into the details of that a little later on. Hopefully this morning well have a lot more to tell you about this case. Reporter can you determine whether any charges have been filed . No charges filed as of this moment. Reporter commissioner all the viewers out here persons of interest but are you satisfied as the top Law Enforcement person in the city that you have these two guys that you were looking for friday morning. Well, let me put it this way. Im satisfied there being on the same page that we dont have to have a manhunt. Unless things take a turn then were pretty confident we have people who can have valuable information we need to bring this to a successful conclusion. Reporter have you got 10 anything positive from the carjacking victim as of yet. Well, the carjacking victim has been very helpful but shes still pretty bad. The last time yesterday she was still critical. But stable. So, shes been able to provide some help, a grateful help actually. And of course the mother yesterday was still in icu, so shes until pretty bad shape. Reporter commissioner i know you said you didnt want to get into any detail and were talking about the original victim and i guess ill have the answer from the look on your face. Word we got was this began as a Sexual Assault with her and thats why she was in the back seat with one of these guys. Did you get any kind of evidence leading into that direction as well. I dont want to get into any specifics. When we have our press conference well talk about the case, well talk about the various charges that are going to be placed against individuals if any. Obviously the d. A. Has to look at everything that we have and make the final determination as to what appropriate charges would be so right now no one is charged. We have a couple people were talking to that we feel can help us bring this to a conclusion reporter if you read between the lines you got the answer they believe they have these two guys. That question obviously if it was a no he would say no so as horrendous as this case already was to hear detail and you find out why maybe somebody may have lost control of the car, while one is in the back seat with this poor woman who was carjacked, maybe it wasnt just after her car, they would have kicked her out of the vehicle, in this case if you didnt think it could get more horrendous likely did and was and youll probably get more details later. Why would they have blood on them . Was there a struggle inside the car . Reporter no, mike, i dont know if you saw that car, that was a real severe accident and thats why the Real Estate Agent who was in the back seat without a seat belt on is critical. So, these guys were with her and so they werent when you carjack a car, youre not worried about putting on seat belts so they took from the impact. Reporter they took the force of the trauma too. Thats why they had bloody clothes. Police tell us they recovered some of the bloody clothes maybe at one persons house, maybe somebody dumped some somewhere else. They were also looking for a gun that was used as well but they got good blood evidence. They probably bled in the car, on the clothes and maybe mom at home saw the bloody clothes on her son, the injuries on her son and maybe knew who he hangs around with and thought we live close to where this happened, did you have anything to do with it and she brought him in here yesterday with the pastor. Steve, thank you. One of their lead stories was their story. In kansas city the lead story. How about this. It was a really rough night. One person is dead and four others are injured after a shooting in feltonville. This one happened on the 4900 block of front street. It was right after midnight. Were told at least 30 shell casings were found at the scene, maybe more. No word yet on a suspect or a motive. Man, what a day on a stretch of a major south jersey roadway. Two run away barges slammed into a bridge yesterday and then backed up traffic, i mean, for miles. Take a look at this video. A tugboat was pulling these two empty barges but Authorities Say that boat ran aground about a mile down river. This is the route 49 bridge in salem county. So thats when the barges broke free of the tug and then eventually crashed into the bridge. No one was hurt, thats g Authorities Say the collision amazingly didnt significantly damage the bridge. The bridge, of course, is the main route for people that are heading to and from the shore. That thing is huge. I know, its ridiculous. Try to man through through there. A series of thunderstorms in Southern California leads to a deadly Lightning Strike. This is on the famous venice beach. A 20yearold man was killed, 12 other people were hurt including a 15yearold boy. They were all examined after the strike. On the beach on the boardwalk people got hurt. Los angeles fire Officials Say theyre not sure everyone was struck by lightning but nine people had to be taken to the hospital. Some needed cpr right there on the beach. And a pilot crash lands a plane on a florida beach. But heres the thing. Killing a father and critically hurting his young daughter. Simply going down to the beach and they get hit by a plane. Wrong place, wrong time. Officials say the pilot sent out a distress signal before 3 oclock yesterday afternoon and the pilot told airport officials he wasnt able to make it what, to the airport he was going to try to land instead on this nearby beach. As mike mentioned this guy was walking along the shore with his daughter at the time. Officials say another Family Member was rushed to the hospital after undergoing a medical emergency because of the shock of actually witnessing this crash. Sure. The National Transportation safety board is investigating. Must have been coming up behind them, didnt even know it was coming. Didnt see it, yes. Coasting in and hit them. Two americans in africa infected with ebola virus. This is unbelievable. This story has really made breaking news over the weekend. Nancy white bowl is a Health Worker from North Carolina shes the second person to come down with this highly contagious disease. Writebol and her husbands were working at a hospital with ebola patients its same hospital where dr. Ken brantly from texas also contracted the virus. His spirits are good and as is his consist consistent with his character he is more concerned about other people than he is about himself. Well, the World Health Organization says this outbreak is the largest ever recorded. It has killed more than 600 people in three countries now. There is no known cure for ebola. Unbelievable. Theyre worried, the doctors without boarders are treating him. Ukrainian forces increased assaults on will be bell held areas in the aftermath of that downed Malaysia Airlines plane. I think there is not an end in site unless the countries of cutter and turkey those with influence on hamas manage to get them to sign on to a ceasefire which would mean no more rockets being fired. Weve been following this va story, Veterans Administration story and the abuses and hard times for the va, especially big tim cgress. I think its right now 30 days, it may be 14 days before all is said and done. So you could see a doctor not related to the Veterans Administration and then who pays for that . The government. During their conversation she jokingly asked if he would fly out to australia from the uk for her birthday and so made a little video trip out of it. So the other day on skype i jokingly challenged to book a spontaneous flight and come out and see her in australia. Three days from now is her birthday and so i thought it might be a good idea. Now i have eight hours over here and about 10 hours. So he finally gets to cydney and with the help of one of ellas friends he was able to carry out the surprise i cant dream up a happier birthday than that. Yeah. All right now developments this morning in fridays carjacking crash that killed three children in philadelphias tioga section. Police now have two persons of interest in custody. That is big details. His detectives are meeting with the District Attorneys Office and the list of charges will be very long and so likely will be the prison time for these two young men that detectives believe began several minutes of terror that will likely result in several years in prison for both. First tthe 19yearold may have faced his toughest judge already at home over the weekend. His own mom brought him to headquarters with his minister. A short time later armed with that information and a lot of guns police swarmed a spot only a couple of blocks up north sixth street from where the carjackings happened and found the then tried to take a criminal joyride but crashed and killed those three children and critically hurt two adults. Now along with any initial cooperation from these guys police also have two sets of fingerprints they can match up with those they left inside the crumpled toyota four runner along with blood evidence left inside there when the suv crashed and the carjack killers got cut and hurt themselves. They can match up with bloody clothing recovered and the suspect blood types. Heres commissioner ramsey just an hour ago on the case. Reporter commissioner all the viewers out there hear persons of interest but are you satisfied as the top Law Enforcement person in the city that you have these two guys that you were looking for friday morning. Yesterday in one of the airports i was in im looking at my Text Messages like this. Up close like that, one eye closed. Yeah. Yeah. People said you need get your eyes checked. I had reading glasses. People complaining about digital eye strain from computer screens from too much of this. Video games, the whole shebang. How do you get rid of it . What is it. Joining us now local optometrist. Digital eye strain is termed in the industry as Computer Vision syndrome and basically we all spend our days looking at computers, looking at e readers, looking at cell phones and our habits are different than when we read printerd material and the emission that is come out of the Electronic Devices also create issues for us. Hm. So its actually the emissions. I know when im sitting watching tv i also have my phone usually in one hand, my ipad in another im looking at email watching tv also moving from device to device like that is especially bad. More importantly youre holding your devices close to you and that creates extra focusing, extra strain on your visual system and that cree yates discomfort. People experience symptoms like blurry vision, whether it be intermittent or constant, they have redness in their eyes. They develop dry eye from working on Electronic Devices, headaches, a lot of eye strain. Right over your head move your head a little bit. Look. Yes, shes looking down at sue is looking at her cell phone, shes looking at a computer and shes got the glasses on. Busted. And theyre all scratched. Sue and i talk about this all the time. I get these glasses i got this one at 30th street station. [laughter] youre a big spender. Youre embarrassing yourself. Im embarrassing myself is what the doctor just said. I hear that every day of my life. I need to get in to see you. We have an appointment this afternoon. We can fit you right in. Everybody has a cell phone. Everybody is looking at a computer. Are we all going to get this eventually. I think anybody that works for an extended period of time usually longer than two hours on a computer or Electronic Device will good some form of eye strain. There are things we can do about it. Right. What can you do. A number of things. Number one, position. You hold your device should be at arms length almost like giving a high five to your computer screen. You cant read that, can you. You can increase the fonder size. I have. And the contrast on your cell phone. My contrast is all the way up to 100 percent and i think ive maxed out on the font. Its only two letters from the screen. I got a call from some of the astronauts and they can see it from the Space Shuttle like this one right here. Look at the size of it. Like one of my friends wanting to have dinner tonight with mark summers. Hope he didnt say anything dirty there. Look at the size of that thing, doc. Large. Yeah, i think holding the phone too close is an issue. You intodded to keep things further away. Okay. I think also its important to make sure that lighting is controlled in there environment that youre in if possible, in particular if youre working in an office dont have lights reflect off of the computer screen because if they reflect off the screen they create glare. We also have new lenses, spectacle lenses that can help relax your eyes so they dont have to work so hard to focus. What are they called. Computer glasses. Computer glasses.
