Covering a developing story out of levittown bucks county. Customer opened fire on two robbery suspects at pizza shop killing one of the suspect. Lets get right out to steve keeley joining us live from the Middletown Police department, this is like a scene out of the wild west here, steve . Reporter were at the Middletown Police Department Headquarters for a simple reason. This is where the custom here was beaten by two armed holdup guys with a gun, before he pulled his own gun in selfdefense is right now. Well see if he wants to talk about what was definitely a traumatic experience, one, he was ready for, as you see in the video, hes just enjoying night out at pizza shop. Only customer in the store with two employees at the time, not just armed, this guy was, with a gun himself, but cool headed, and trained in when and how to pull it out and fire and not miss. He told the employees and the custom tear get on the grounds, and he began piss top whipping one of the customers at which point that customer produce add handgun, and shot both of the robbers. At this time one of the robbers is dead, pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to saint mary medical center, he was shot in the shoulder and the neck. Hes in serious condition. And it is my understanding that he may have been flown down to Jefferson Hospital for further treatment. Were very thank knawl there were no other injuries. But, like i said, it is tragic. You dont want to see anything like this happen. You dont want to see anyone die. But at the same time, you know, it was a robbery and it appears that the customer was defending himself. Well, police got there real quick. It is only less than 2 miles from police headquarters. Another employee who had been in there ran out the back door when he saw the hole up in progress, went to local bar, and called 911. Now, when we first talked to him, the police chief at that time here did not know yet whether that armed customer had a permit to car a concealed weapon. Thomas, karen, you got to wonder even if he didnt have a permit, who in the world would want though charge this guy maybe even if you are on a jury who would convict this guy whatever he was doing, rather heroic, he had to do it, who knows what would have happened if he didnt. More breaking news this morning, firefighter now in the hospital and nine people without a home to stay in after whole row of townhomes goes up in flames. Fire Officials Say it happened about 11 00 last night along linda lane and bernie highway. Right to Lauren Johnson on the scene. What are you learning this morning, lauren . Good morning, thomas. Right here at the reserve. It is the first townhome on the corner where you can see fire crews still working up top of that fire, top of the townhouse, trying to keep our eye on possible hot spots. Down in the front yard peco crews working feverishly because early reports were that a gas line blew here. Lets take a look at video sent to us by fresco users tyler berk and brian peers. You can see flames shooting from the row of townhomes right here as you said, thomas, at linda lane and bernie highway in aston. Fire started sometime around 11 20 last night inside one of these threestory homes. Firefighters were able to get it under control in about an hour. The entire block was evaculated while fire crews worked to control the blaze. In the end, four townhomes were damaged, that left nine people displaced, the red cross has stepped in to help those people and their families, one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. So right now, we dont know exactly what caused the fire, but from the indication out here at the scene, we can see that peco crews are working in that front yard digging up the front yard and seemingly trying to repair that ruptured gas line. The Aston Fire Department and the Delaware County fire marshall had been on scene and they are both jointly investigating this fire. Karen, thomas . Difficult time for those families. 4 06. Authorities say a woman is dead after becoming trapped inside a burning home in brewerytown. Happened last night along the 1400 block of North Hollywood street. Fire department arrived on scene within three minutes, and found the 80 year old on the living room floor. Now, neighbor tells us, she tried to rescue the lady when she saw the womans home was on fire. Tried to knock a window out, see if she was in there, the young boys down the street came and bus the window open, it was too much smoke to get in. This is like the mother of the neighborhood. She a good lady. This is an ongoing investigation. The cause is not yet known. 4 07. Police say it started monday evening on 19th street near fairmount. Twentyseven year old man was walking to a corner store when he was approached from behind by four teenagers, and punched in the face. Now the teens grabbing the mans phone demanding he give them the password, as they followed him into the store. He told someone to call 911. So the next incident, taking place a block away, just ten minutes later. More teens approached a man, acting as if they had a weapon stealing his phone. Then, 25 minutes later, a third man was approached by teens on 22nd street, threatening to shoot him if he didnt turn over his phone and wallet. Just makes you more cautious about, you know, protecting yourself, especially because it gets darker earlier now. So you have to be extra careful. Really do. And officer spotted the robbery on 22nd street and chased down two of the teens. They are charged with robbery and assault. This is one of the cameras capturing pretty wild chase on our philly streets. Someone posted this clip on youtube, criticizing how Police Officer responded. They would like this to go viral. So, this may not be a clear cut kates though. Riding dirt bikes like these on city streets against the law, Shawnette Wilson has more. This message make it go viral, recorded by someone on bike wearing a camera, short other did dirt bike riders while flying along torresdale avenue in wissinoming. But the person who posted it also point out what they say is also dangerous a police suv apparently pursuing the bikers just before one every them collided with a cop car. Skyfox flew over the scene at torresdale and howell street where it happened yesterday afternoon. Justin came outside just after the crash. In place for a reason. Youre going to break them, you get hit, thats not their fault. I mean, but then again, a cop shouldnt be chasing them in a car. Call a bike unit. Police say 18 year old speeding on a dirt bike collided with the police cruiser, as police were making a turn onto howell from torresdale. The teen is in the hospital in critical condition. Police say is a person who shot and killed a Southwest Airlines employee at an airport out in Oklahoma City took his own life. After a manhunt at the Will Rogers World Airport that shutdown that airport for hours, police did finds that killer dead in a pickup truck. Police believe the shooting was premeditated. A man and woman from philadelphia are suspect in a double homicide in california. Arrest warrants have been issued for Robert Randolph and maria labron. Police say the pair shot three people during a drug buy at bay area home last month. Two of the victims died. Third victim remains in the hospital. Investigators believe randolph annular braun may now be in philadelphia, or possibly, new jersey. Pizza shop customer fights back during a robbery shooting and killing one of the suspect. Steve keeley joining us from the Middletown Police department, with the latest on this one, steve . Reporter yes, that customer was beaten up, not beaten too bad. Hes not seriously hurt. He is here with the police now, being interviewed. And after he tells the cops here what happened, well see if he wants to tell you, and what a story of survival he has to tell and live through. Now, lets go to the video right now. You will look look at strip mall. In the middle of the strip mall, this pizza shop, closes at 10 00. So just before that two guys with two guns walk in to rob the place. They did not wait for the one last customer still inside to leave. And that was their fatal mistake for one robber. That customer with two employees still inside a third ran out to a closed bar to call police were ordered to get on the floor. Where the robbers began for some reason beating the customer with their guns. Soon after, he turned on them, because they turned their attention to the porforio workers, that customer pulled out his own gun shooting both robbers before they could shoot anyone else, or even get a shot off in selfdefense themselves. He hit one in the chest, killing him. He hit the other in the neck and shoulder. Hes still in serious condition at last check. Two employees appear like they dont have any serious injuries. So were very thankful that there were no other injuries. But like i said, it is tragic. I mean, you doesnt want see anything like this happen. You dont want to see anyone die. In this situation, you know, it looks like could have had three victims, the two store employees and the customer. The customer was able to fight back, was going to be a definite robbery. Then who knows what could have happened from there. What are you guys investigating as far as the owner of the gun . The customer smear. Well see if the gun is registered to him, if he had a valid permit to carry it. Were still work to go determine that as of right now. Well, this is an instance where you always hear in this town that stupid tv news cliche, he turned the tables on the robbers. Well, better to report he wisely waited for his shot to strike and shoot himself, two guys, two guns, before they could shoot and kill innocent people and even get a shot off. Sounds like the argument legal gun owners always make about how to stop a crime and criminals dead in their tracks and dead right in the act. Karen, thomas . You know that several people are now homeless. There was a fire fight here was injured. Look that the. Fast moving fire here, Lauren Johnson on the scene. Several families hit hard by this one, lauren. Report. The red cross was here to offer them assistance, im not sure if any of them needed the red cross, but the red cross was here. Everybody has found someplace to go, and they have everything taken care of for them now. There was one injury to firefighter, lower leg injury, and she was taken to the hospital. She is okay. And it is under investigation. Were you asking me do we know what caused the fire. It is a large fire. Were not sure. We have an idea where it started in the huge amount of fire damage, but tomorrow morning we will come back and resume the investigation. Im being assisted by Delaware County cid and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals are here to assist me with that investigation. What are the crews doing in the front of the house right snow. Thats gas, peco gas guy, came to secure the gas main. Im not sure exactly how or what happened, but something caused him to get into the grounds, secure the main, dow know that the 1 meter caught fire during the fire. So that may have caused damage. I havent asked them specifically. But they came out and have secured, just secured a minute or two ago. It was an hour long fire fight. Talk about where it started and what made this tough. Im not sure where it started. You can see the buildings that were on fire, were still investigating where it started. The volume of fire is what makes it tough. The troops came out, rallied really well, response was quick, and they were able to get themselves in a good defensive position to keep it from going further than where it was. Do you know if the home had any working Smoke Detectors, also did the family call 911, do we know . The only people that were home called 911, and i dont know the Smoke Detector answer at this time. I mean, pretty remarkable for the size of the fire and the time that it was, that everybody was able to make it out okay. Talk to us about that, the injuries to the fire fighter . I would think they had Smoke Detectors. We all know Smoke Detectors save lives. And the two folks who were in, actually, the house damaged most had two residents in there. And they were the ones that called 911. They came, they were upstairs, and smelled smoke, i guess they heard their Smoke Detectors, came down, went out, and called 911. The house next to them had fire. Excuse me, youre hearing from the Aston Fire Department this morning regarding several house fires that completely destroyed those homes. We know that nine people are now without a place to stay. It will really mess the summer up. It is a terrible idea, i think, and i think that they should like not do that. Keep our vacation the way it is. Attendance drops off considerably in june, the calendar would keep kids in school and improve academics. It is very important that you have as many uninterrupted instructional days earlier in the school year.
