This fire started at an auto body shop and just grew and grew spread to go nearby buildings. Tonight the situation is under control but authorities are just getting an idea of the scope of the damage and trying to figure out exactly what caused that fire. Reporter ladies, ill tell was this is a rough day, a rough fire in these conditions it was brought for about 120 firefighters battling through the day thins this fire started around 9 30 10 oclock this morning. As you see they are still on the scene. Theres an awful lot of ice as this water comes pouring out it is icing up everything from above as you see theyre continuing to battle this fire at well. There are still some hot spots here again majority of firefighters are gone but those who remain are still put to work. As we turn to the left here, we want to show you where its believed this fire actually began. There is an auto body shop just maybe half block from where we are. They are still putting out the hot spots there. In this darkness you may not be able to see it but theres a car right there that is buried it looks like under inches of ice as a result of all of this water. We can tell you at this point there is no word on what actually caused this fire. Lets show you some pictures from earlier. We do know this wind as a result of that the fire spread to fire other businesses so a total of six businesses impacted multiple collapses reported. We know that one firefighter at one point put out a may day call from inside a building suffering though minor injuries hell be okay. There was a mother and child also taken to the hospital in stable condition. Full fledged command center was set up. Peco turning off power. The gas and Water Companies here. Red cross was here. So was the Salvation Army even red paw caring for some pets. We cannot say enough about how cold it is here. Truck, equipment, even firefightefirefighters with icis forming on them. Trains by the way had to be stopped along the market frankford line here. They were using shuttle buses, again took several hours to get this fire under control. Finally was a little after 2 00 this afternoon. 120 firefighters battling in very tough conditions. We had, what, 20 miles an hour winds gusting which caused the fire to spread from the original fire. This is a challenge because of the cold and wind conditions but the members have done a good job of trying to maintain save operations. We have Safety Officer in place. Weve had multiple collapses. Original fire there was a collapse and collapse in one of the properties on frankford avenue. This was covered in smoke. Black smoke. It was covering this like a nightmare. By the winds coming pretty fast. Pretty fast. Lucky a lot of houses didnt get caught. I was so frightened. I was frightened for my clients. My clients cars are still stuck on the street. They werent able to get here stranded inside the salon and we have no way out right now. They did a great job putting out the fire. They even risked their lives to put it out. They are heroes. Reporter yes, they sure are. Again, theres no word on a cause. They are still out here with these bitter cold temperatures and wind chills putting this fire out. So we are we dont know at this point how long they will stay out here, but again as this building continues to smolder obviously theyll stay here on the scene. Big rigs, box cars, cars all tangled up across three lanes of traffic into the snow covered median. Witnesses say the winds were strong and the visibility was very low at the time of that massive pileup. It was blowing and it was snow squall almost like a white out conditions. Its moving into some cold air but no question that the bringing up the warm air. Normally holds the cold air in place for these big winter storms not there with this. So it will start as snow. Unfortunately about the rush hour because light enough the roads can be wet. Once the snow goes down after 4 00 oclock could get a little accumulation of snow quickly change over to rain along i95 and to the south. But that cold air may stick around a bit so north and west could see continued snow or maybe even some ice. Maybe about an inch which would quickly melt along 95 but more accumulation up north maybe two to three it inches and then mixing with a little bit of ice. Ice accumulations may be a tenth of an inch. So there could be slippery rush hour monday night and then tuesday morning, as the temperatures climb into the 40s we see a change over to rain. But then the problem flooding because look at this very heavy rain where rain snow line pushed north tuesday morning. There could be some Flooding Issues and ponding on the roadways tuesday. So thats the big story with this storm. No question changes to rain but the messy p. M. Rush on monday will make little more snow and ice north and west. Look at these accumulations closely.
