Communities all along the Atlantic Coast are bracing for Tropical Storm hermine. You can see the surf is start to go really kick up there along the shore line. Back here at home, strong rip currents are threatening to ruin the holiday fun at the jersey shore. Youre being warned to stay close to the beach if youre a swimmer going out in the ocean there are some important rules you got to follow. Good day team spoke with the margate city beach patrol about that this morning. Rip currents begin by the ocean waves hitting the shore line and then they start to get diverted for different contours of the top poe gravy of the ocean floor and then theres a current that youll hit two currents coming at each other and theyll start to pull you out. So the main thing is be calm, um, if you, f someone is on the beach just wave and dont fight it. Kind of go with it. And eventually youll be pulled out and then youll be in a calmer area if you can swim, youll swim when its calm so you dont get tired out trying to swim against a current you cant handle. Of course, weve seen so many of these drownings happen when lifeguards are off duty. Officials stress always to swim in front of on duty lifeguards. Good advice. Heres live look at ocean city tonight. Its really the calm before the storm here. As locals settle in for a long Holiday Weekend. Pretty scene there but it could be a completely different story by sunday. Lets head over to our fox 29 weather. Scott williams is tracking how Tropical Storm hermine could impact this Holiday Weekend. Dawn and chris, major impacts expected especially down the shore with hermine. That could actually intensify back to a hurricane but right now still a Tropical Storm moving through the carolinas. Dumping heavy rainfall just to the east of charlotte and raleigh toward the outerbanks. Maximum sustained winds at 50 miles an hour. Its picked up some forward speed for now. Movement to the northeast about 20 miles an hour but it will eventually slow down. Tropical storm warnings now posted for much of south jersey and delaware. Were talking about win the next 36 hours winds could gust over 40 Miles Per Hour. So Power Outages could be a concern for parts of the area as well. The 5 00 oclock advisory in showing the latest path continuing to take it just off of Cape Hatteras by the upcoming weekend but watch what happens as we move toward sunday. A sunday afternoon. Even into monday you can see a 2 00 p. M. Were talking about 75mile per hour winds. That would be a hurricane and were looking at winds that will continue to just kind of lash the coast and that is why we expect a Long Duration event a cove al flooding, beach erosion at time of high tides and look at the spaghetti plots moving it out to sea but you can see it continues to do a loop tee loop offshore for several days so thats why you have to take these warnings arroyosly we also have a blocking high to the north so that will help to kind of lock it in for several days as it sits and spins. But right now moving through sections of the carolinas. And all of that moisture will head in our direction as well. So it looks like lesser amounts the farther north and west you head away from philadelphia but higher amounts once you move down the shore we could eadesly pick up anywhere from three to perhaps even 6inches of rainfall right along the immediate coastal sections so that track is really going to be key. If it moves a little farther to the east, were talking about lesser rainfall amounts but more if it moves a little farther to the west. Also dont forget about the potential for Power Outages across the area. He iespecially down the shore ad the delaware beaches and into the delaware bay where those winds will be gusting over 40 Miles Per Hour enough to cause those Power Outages. Rip current danger all Labor Day Weekend best advice just stay out of the water altogether. Heres the break down. Saturday the showers moving in late in the afternoon and evening. Winds gusting up to 40 Miles Per Hour. As we move toward sunday heaviest rain and the wind gusts up to 50 maybe even more amounts per hour. Likewise as we move into monday. So lingering effects down the shore for several days. Take a look at future wind gusts. You can see by saturday night, gusting up to 30, 40 miles an hour down the shore gusting up to 25 miles an hour inland as we move toward sunday afternoon still gusting up to Tropical Storm force even picking up sunday night into monday. So the worst of it could actually start to arrive late sunday even into monday. Look at those winds gusting up to 50, 60 Miles Per Hour. So here the bottom line as we move forward the Labor Day Weekend. The unofficial end to summer down the shore lousy conditions. Also the high tied cycles to note. Nine to 10 00 a. M. And also nine to 10 00 p. M. Several tied cycles to get through. The storm surge could be from two to 4 feet as well down the shore. Labor day weekend in the philadelphia area for tomorrow it should be dry but cloudy. 76 degrees. The best chance for rainfall in center city would arrive on sunday. Depending on that track and how far those rain bands move back inland. We could pick up about an inch staying cloudy and breezy for monday. The best weather across the area for the upcoming weekend will be in the pocono mountains. Its looking beautiful. Well see clouds, mixing with a few peeks of sunshine. Temperatures top out in the low 70s. Once again, inland impacts with hermine. Clouds on saturday. Some rain on sunday. Winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour on sunday and down the shore major impacts coastal flooding. Beach erosion. Winds gusting over 50 miles an hour Power Outages likelihood as well. That Weather Authority seven day forecast showing you continuing to watch hermine. It could once again be a hurricane off of our coast for several days early next week and then we slowly start to clear out and warm up maybe even another heat wave as we move throughout the next several days of next week.
