And now to some breaking news out of west philadelphia. Police are right now searching for the person who hit a woman and then drove away. Fox 29s brad sattin is live at the scene. Brad weve learned that the woman has died from her injuries. Reporter that is correct. She died at Presbyterian Hospital a little while ago. We are at the spot where this happened. This is the 600 block of north 57th street. Lets kind of set the scene and show you, you can see to the left of me there are some trolley tracks there, a 47yearold woman was getting off of the trolley here just before 8 oclock. She was with several children and carrying a threeyearold. Her grandson. Let us take you to some scenes, video from a short time ago. She was getting off of the trolley when a car was coming down 57th and hit her. She dropped the threeyearold. Police are telling us she was dragged about threequarters of the block. So, it was im going to guess about a good 300 yards she was dragged until the car made a turn on popular and she became unwedged from the vehicle. That vehicle kept on going. It was a very chaotic scene. Neighbors came out. There was screaming and an ambulance arrived as we mentioned dawn, the woman was taken to Presbyterian Hospital and pronounced dead. The threeyearold pleased to be her grandson suffered bumps bruises and scrapes and was taken to the hospital and is okay. We want to show you a picture we had gotten from police just a short time ago of that vehicle that never stopped. We blurred part of it because when this was taken the woman was still lodged underneath but its as you see a white vehicle pleased to be a minute believe the to b to ba minivan. Police at this hour continue to search for that vehicle. We know that 47yearold woman did die at the hospital. The threeyearold was injured but is okay. In cherry hill a High School Play has divided the community. But tonight School Officials say the show must go on. Officials decided students at Cherry Hill High School east will perform the musical rag time exactly as it was written. The controversy was over the scripts use of racial slurs. Reporter well, dawn, you know, the community was divided when they thought that the play was going to be canceled and theyre still divided now that weve learned it will go on. But the superintendent says there will be conversation and curriculum to make sure everyone can learn from it without feeling threatened or disenfranchised. I feel like a lot of people, you know, especially the kids in the older grades like theyre mature enough to understand that theres a context for the words that are peeing used. Reporter caleb murtha is in the pit orchestra and will be playing the music for his schools production of the Tony Award WinningBroadway Musical rag time choosing to perform the play has caused some contention in the community because of its use of the nword. Originally the School Superintendent decided they would not perform the play but after a series of meetings and discussions today he reversed the decision. The kids are learning without being offensive. Thats the goal of the community i would from what im hearing. Reporter School Superintendent posted the decision on the districts web site this evening in a letter that started with the sentence words matter. His Statement Reads in part these are tumultuous difficult times we believe that while these difficult times provide challenges in our education inay technological provide an opportunity and obligation to educate. We believe we can educate using difficult subject matter presented in a safe sensitive way. We dont feel comfortable with them saying the nword just in general. Its the reality of the play throughout the society and as High Schoolers i dont see why its an issue when as they get older this is what the reality is. More than 40,000 drivers are going to be waiting a little longer to cross the Delaware River bridge. Crews are working to install eight 80foot towers that will help stabilize the bridge while a cracked truss is repaired. Its been a week since the bridge when connects the pennsylvania and new jersey turnpikes closed. Still no word on exactly when drivers will be able to use the bridge again. Neighbors in philadelphias Queen Village are feeling uneasy tonight following a series of fires. Police say someone has been lighting trash cans or fire put the fire is spreading beyond the cans and many people are worried that their property could be next. There have been at least four fires set in Queen Village in the la of the month the latest one happening early this morning just behind me. Obviously people are upset, theyre concerned. The Surveillance Video shows a man using a lighter or matches toto set a fire in a garbage in that front of a thrift shop on south street early this morning. I get to work. I see all the cardboard is that burned up. I look to my left and i see the flower pots respect burned signs respect burned the whole front of the store the black paint was bubbling and i noticed the car parked here completely burned the back of it door handles. Reporter adam works at the thrift shop. When he arrived he called police and checked his store Surveillance Video and video from another business. Were the fourth place that it happened to. Reporter just a block away from the 30 shop someone started a fire outside Queen Village market last month. The same thing happened outside of a market on south fourth not once but twice and it was all captured on Surveillance Video as well. One or two occasions if someone is mad or theyre drinking but if it goes on and on it needs to be dealt with. The School District of philadelphia has placed a price tag on the long term cost of building repairs. A startling 4. 5 billion. Today the district took reporters to the roof of Dunbar Elementary school in north philadelphia to show them the big pools of rainwater there. The district plans to spend 1 million to repair that roof. A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania House speaker said that they hear the concerns but money is very tight in harrisburg. Prosecutors in new jersey say they will not pursue a criminal case against governor Chris Christie in the bridgegate scandal. Bergen county assistant prosecutor dave higgins says the state does not believe it can prove official misconduct beyond a reasonable doubt. William brennan claimed governor christie violated the states misconduct law when he failed to reopen the lanes on the george warrant bridge. Christies office meantime releasing a statement in part the Prosecutors Office was Crystal Clear there is no basis for this charge against the governor.
