This is an earlier skyfox shot of the area mlk and forbes road where we have mlk completely shut down from forbes to just east of the intersection for a deadly shooting investigation. Were hearing a road rage incident. Ill keep it there for a bit as far as the details because we do have live report coming up with more information. So from traffic standpoint here some work arounds for you. And sydney road to the south. By way westbound still looking very slow along 92. So if you plan to use that a work around give yourself extra time. Also looking a bit slow in area along northbound turkey greek as folks try to steer clear of that investigation scene. We have another case of road rage on bay area roads. Someone has been shot and killed this rn morning in Hillsborough County. As vanessa was just talking about, its going to complicate things if youre trying to get to and from. Because there will be very big closing that road for much of the morning. We do know that Hillsborough County sheriffs office, this is their investigation. And they will holding a press conference here in about and well get more information from them. But we do know mlk will be closed for several more hours. So obviously just a beginning of this situation. Affecting so many peoples lives. A Citizen Police academy turned into a crime scene after live ammunition was used during a training exercise. Now a 73yearold woman is dead. This happened at the punta gore today Police Department about an hour south of tampa near port charlotte. Shayla went there early this morning and we understand there were about a dozen people watching this . They still dont know how Something Like this could have happened, do they . No. There are still a lot of questions surrounding the events unfolding. This weve learned is attended sometimes by more than 30 people per session. So and inn this particular case right now were looking a police cars, police tape, and a Police Department here in the middle. The big question investigators want to answer is how did a live what happened next is in this situation, could not be reversed. Now a simulation ended in tragic reality here. And what the punta police chief has called a horrible accident. This all started with a scenario on when to use and when not to use lethal force. Its an exercise included in department Citizen Police academy. Now more than 30 people again attend some of these sessions. And among them, tuesday, weve knoll ton. She was randomly selected to participate in what was supposed to shoot dont shoot exercise. Were told a live round struck the librarian who later died from her injuries. Heres what punta police chief had to say. Our Police Department and awful our city leaders are absolutely devastated for everyone involved in this unimaginable event. I am asking if you pray, you for all the officers and witnesses that are involved in this incident. Everyone involved is in state of overwhelming shock and grief. Now we learned members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrived here last night. The chief for the Punta Gorda Police investigation an an independent investigation determine how this happened and take closer look at events surrounding this incident. In that the 73yearold woman mary knoll ton is said to be from minnesota but lived in punta gorda and Board Members for a friends of library. A volunteer position. Road rage takes life of another person Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputies are trying to figure out what this started this thing a meantime a busy road is shut down just a few miles from a bay area high school. Around 6 30 this morning we received a 911 call about a shooting here on Martin Luther king, jr. Boulevard. Our deputies responded to the scene found an individual lying on the road with another individual performing cpr on him. Preliminary it appears this was road rage incident when the two subjects. One subject front of the other got out and an argument ensued which time one of the individuals was shot. The deceased is approximatly 40 years old. Were still working to identify him. And we will get that information out to you as soon as we can. Right now were processing the crime scene, interviewing our shooter, and the number of witnesses who have come back to the scene. Was shooter performing cpr . Yes he was. What kind of message that shooter was performing cpr after but was still trying to do right thing and make sure hopeful individual would survive any idea what stemmed even the initial altercation the initial fight . All we know it is some type of what we believe road rage incident. But again were still very early in the investigation. Were they both alone in their cars . Yes. Anything else that might have tipped you off what ownership simple road rage . No just from our basic interview of the shooter but we have to conduct more detailed interview of any other cars eye witness able to provide you any additional 96 this being rush hour on fairly well used intersection. Right a lot of people are calling and coming back to the scene. There was no one here at the scene when we originally arrived now were talking to them. Were in the process of doing at that and hope to gain some Additional Information we had liking to make sure people with school know to stay out of this we will out here couple hours. Trying to prevent people from being late. From your perspective how then, this is going on. Im sure its difficult were prepared for these kind of issues our homicide section comes out and does this. So thats okay. Then we have other units helping to divert traffic. So that people can get around and try to avoid getting stuck in it. You guys have you seen just general uptick in road rage incidents . Or simply maybe, i dont know, whats, are we seeing 95 that at all . We do see it adont certainly have seen some cases recently that are concerning. Again we urge the public, you know, dont engage with people. Its not worth it over some type of traffic related incident or your 5 minutes late to work or school. Just, drive by and ignore the person and dont get in some type of confrontation. Its not worth anybodys life are you able to tell us case of selfdefense or again its too early. Thats something we certainly have to consider whether its stand your grouped selfdefense with us. We always meet with them and discuss the actions of the case. Probably nothing that will resolve today. Because of the investigation we need to make sure its thorough and complete. So we dont anticipate charging anybody or making a decision one way or the other today. Jumping out like you just said dont engage other person how many times have we seen it motorcycle will engage driver that sort of thing. So again we just learned that the shooter was standing over the deceased person trying to revive that person with cpr. To no avail that person lost their life because of the shooting. Then that person is now talking with authorities trying to iron out what exactly happened here. But they are talking. So it looks like it is contained to this era not like shooter running around and other people are in danger. They are talking with shooter that the point. But this intersection here Mlk Wilkinson they say it will be closed for several hours which weve seen a decent traffic tie up. People are trying to get to work, to school whatever it may be. In this morning top stories a 73yearold woman is dead after accidently being shot during a Citizen Police academy. 35 people participating in this academy when two people were selected to participate in a shoot dont shoot scenario. And during the scenario, was hit and killed. Police say at officer involved is devastated as well everyone there seeing it happen. Florida Department Law enforcement is investigating. And a man tries to out run florida highway patrol. All caught on camera. State troopers tried to pull over the man in early yesterday. As you can see he kept ongoing he didnt away for long he was eventually caught he faces a list of charges including driving without a license. Thats his third offense being held without bond. Well its already been a busy back to school morning. And only the first day. But still only the beginning. We still have to get to the end of it all.
