Right then, right there i couldnt believe it he was so helpful i know its such a small thing little thing. Simple thing but it made me smile made me happy made my day share your story. the story shocked and disgusted the entire nation. the water crisis in flint, water tainted with lead, poisoning the entire city. got us thinking of the issue as a whole right here in the bay area. dr. Patrick maroney with all Childrens Hospital is joining us this morning. good morning, alcides. alcides led in the water supply is not a new issue, right supply is not a new issue, right . something we obviously worry about. in flint a huge issue what they thought was a simple change. changing the water come changing the water coming into flint using the flint river for their source of river versus lake huron they had done for the previous years and over the last two years, this water coming in from flint actually came into the water supply and they were treating the water, but what was wrong is flint, city where gm started. at one point in time, all of the buicks and all of the chrysler cars in the country were made in flint and what is happening, there were corrosive material in that flint river, and that came into the water mains and kind of knocked down some of the iron in the water mains so the people saw brown in the water, but what they didnt know it was leaching lead out of the lead pipes going into the homes, and it was discovered that the children and the people, citizens of flint were being exposed to lead. what i found fascinating and i was talking to but this, a peed trish than shah connected all of these cases together. a residency director and started seeing patients coming into the clinic and being hospitalized and symptoms, head hospitalized and symptoms, headache, abdominal pain and started to recognize a pattern. a lot were xlairing a lot were complaining of hair loss in the children and put it together and test for lead in children and found out these kids did have elevated lead levels and elevated more so now than before when they were using together and this cry for help was sent out. alcides basically Something Like this has not happened here in the bay area, god forbid, but in the bay area, god forbid, but, you know, its its possible that someone can have lead poisoning by more than just the water supply. thats correct. and children they go to their pediatrician more of a problem in children because they are smaller, children that go to the peed trish than is gets tested at one or two years of age. all children on medicaid get tested. children from foster care. children adopted from other countries and then children from higher risk areas, and those risk are living in houses that were built before the 1970s when we still have lead in paint or especially those houses from the 50s and before, and getting the lead checked. and this is why you need to go to our annual visits with your pediatrician. getting lead checked in the first sign, because a lot of these symptoms are big. a lot of these symptoms are head a lot of these symptoms are headaches and abdominal pain and malaise. clumsiness and agitation. since the symptoms are vague, test something the most important thing. alcides . alcides is just the beginning. we will be talking to you more in the 9 00 hour. how this is affect og you are children, water supply and why fluoride is such an important thing that our kids need to do every single night before going to bead. interest maroney, see you at 9 00. thank you. looking to get out of the house this weekend, a bunch of hot happenings going on all across the bay area for you. first up, arena cross slides into amalie arena tonight. all the highflying dirt bike action of motorcross mr.
