massachusetts last week for an unknown ailment. she had had several health setbacks in recent years including a number of strokes. eunice kennedy shriver was a long-time advocate for children's health the sist of former president kennedy. >> she is well known for founding the special olympics. her family was with her when she passed. she passed with a just a few hours ago at cape cod hospital. fox's david lee miller is take a look back on her life as a member of such a remarkable family who made her own mark as a champion of the mentally disabled. >> reporter: she was a rod member of america's most famous family. she was born in 1921 in brookline, massachusetts. she group up like the rest of the children, under pressure. it was win, don't come in second or third. that doesn't count. one way or another, most of the children followed this advice, entering public service or other competitive occupations. eunice focused on helping thementally challenged. her inspiration, her sister, rosemary who had been born with mild mental retardation. in 1953 she married robert sargement shriver, jr. he shared her strong catholic with respect bringing and her sense of social responsibility. in 1961, she established a presidential committee on mental retardation but it was in 1968 that she really made her mark as one of the founders of the special olympics. since then, the month ago. she has been in mass pass for some time now. her health issues last year were well documented. >> had a series of strokes. spent some time down in noard and back in massachusetts as well. and then again has fallen on some tough times in the last couple of days and the family was there by her side. she is survived by her husband and five children. we will be following this story
